Hi thanks for the quick reply but the problem with that is that there is limited space and the plastering/rendering needs to be kept to a minimum. Regards

    Reversed polarity.

Just been to a mates flat and he was playing with a socket tester he'd bought. When he plugged it in it came up with the polarity reversed. It looks like on the CU the tails are inserted into the wrong holes Black into live and red into neutral. He's called a mate who is coming to swap...

    Kitchen Radial, no of sockets.

So the circuit isn't ideal, but the people who own the house don't really want to have to pay to get the room rewired and are happy with resetting the mcb every now and then. As long as the protection works, there is no problem surely? Not ideal but working and has been for 20 years...

    Kitchen Radial, no of sockets.

kettle and dishwasher along with the fridge and freezer. But the washing machine is going to another location. Used to always go when the kettle was turned on and the dishwasher was running. Not really a problem because the people who live there just paused the dishwasher when the kettle...

    Kitchen Radial, no of sockets.

Rewiring would mean chasing back all the buried cable and rewiring, the run to the cu is complicated and I'd rather not. To be honest rewiring isn't something I want to do, why would it be necessary to start again when most of the sockets are fine? Thanks, Dombe

    Kitchen Radial, no of sockets.

A quick question, our kitchen had 9 double sockets and was wired with 2.5 mm t+e, protected by a 15a mcb in the consumer unit. No washing machine, tumble dryer e.t.c. (except a kettle will be plugged in). The room is about 25 m2, the old 15 a mcb used to nusiance trip every couple of months...

But if its acceptable to run the extractor from the lighting circuit then I won't need to. The existing wiring and fan switch can be used. Thanks.

possible to safely join cable in plaster?

Out of interest do you normally insulation tape round the crimp lugs (even if they are insulated ones) after crimping? Or just crimp and cover then plaster over? Thanks

    extractor fan on lighting ring.

Sorry, The lighting circuit. Yes I an aware of part p. I'm trying to sort out what I need to chase into the walls, then a sparky friend is going to wire it all up. So I want to get as much of the lumpy work out of the way before he comes. Thanks

    extractor fan on lighting ring.

Hi, I'm in the process of renewing my kitchen, and on removing the ceiling I noticed that the extractor fan was on the lighting ring. Am I right in thinking that this isn't right, or is this actually ok? The new extractor unit is 200 watts and the lights are 200 watts and its all run in...

    Spot lights and loft insulation

You can buy intumescent top hats. They cost about £15 each. and need about 200mm clearance. Other methods are to box in using fireboard, with holes for ventilation or teracotta type pots with a hole in the bottom.
