I agree don't touch these unless you know exactly what you are doing damn dangerous in the wrong hands, make sure whoever you call out is trained on them I cannot emphasis just how dangerous these can be without proper training.

the problem is with the connection onto the copper pipe the cutter is mild steel rusts up and blocks the pipe,replace it with a stop tap and double check valve.

It could be that you have no Bypass valve on the system and when your motorised valve closes the pump isnt moving any water and cavitates producing noise.do you have 2 seperate zone valves or one three port valve.
