    Thanks, yeah im re-cording them and fully draughtproofing them also. I was just thinking that is it a good idea to paint the part of the sash stile that is in contact with the parting bead? will the brish strip rub the paint off and get it clogged up? Any experience gratefully received...

    Im getting round to painting my single glazed timber sashes when the weather picks up. I have given them a full overhaul and stripped back to bare wood. What do you think about re-painting them - should I do it with the sashes in or out and why?? Cheers

    Cheers for that, I take the UV prob on board, but surely if they just fit black PVC pipes they should be ok, for a good few years anyway. Im just curious as the regs stated they had to be internal back in the 70's but obviously they are not concerned with the aesthetics and with it clearly...

    So, why do new builds make the soil vent pipe internal and trunk/box it in?? Surely the whole point is to keep the water out the house especially that kind of water! Also it makes issues with access etc so what the hell are they playing at? Is there any benefit to this? Surely its more work...
