Should I return this mitre saw?

Update. I've learnt some, which is always good. After the replies here I had been resigned to returning the machine. But, having double-checked the blade-to-vertical with a digital angle gauge, it was definitely giving me 90º which didn't tie in with the results I'd been getting from the...

Should I return this mitre saw?

I've just bought a Metabo KGS 305M, a 12" compound sliding mitre saw. It's a beast of a machine, but will handle sleepers with ease, which is one significant reason for purchase. I've adjusted the fence; no problem. But the vertical is off by about 1.5-2º. Since it's a compound saw I can make...

Glue for PVC false glazing bars/muntins

Something I'd not thought of. Good points to keep in mind, thank you.

Glue for PVC false glazing bars/muntins

Thanks. Before you posted I tried sticking one piece on with Screwfix no nonsense spray contact adhesive. It's taken really, really well. Problem is that it will need a good few months of direct sunlight before I'll know if it definitely works! I'll keep the tape in mind as an alternative ...

Glue for PVC false glazing bars/muntins

Hi Folks I have some PVC glazing units with "false muntins"; i.e. PVC stick-on bars. On the sunny side of the house, the bars are dropping off (units are 15 years old). I assume that the PVC was originally self-adhesive. I have managed to clean the glue reside off the windows. The PVC backing...

    Another ... retaining wall

@mikeey84 and @noseall - sorry, I missed your replies somehow. I guess that would do it; seep in between the GBs wouldn't be much different from the seep between the existing wooden posts. @mattylad no; from mine to theirs.

    Another ... retaining wall

@noseall Ta - it's a question of what I can get hold of at the moment. @mikeey84 - Thanks - yeah I know! :) Having seen one such option I guess I'm looking for agreement that GBs are adequate. Also taking on board noseall's comment about clay I'd also like to add drainage - is there any easy...

    Another ... retaining wall

Cheers. Yeah the soil is quite clay-heavy. We'd just about get 2' into the ground - 0.6m + 0.6m drop +1.8m panel = 3.0m post height.

Thanks @noseall - can you elaborate on 'done right'? What about drainage?

    Another ... retaining wall

Hi. Looking for some advice please. Some of my boundary fence posts have rotted and need replacing. The issue is that there’s a difference in height of about 50-60cm between my ground and my neighbour’s ground. The original “retaining wall” from when the house was built (in 2004) consisted of a...

3 core and earth colour coding

Hi I'm replacing the wiring to my attic light switch with 3 core and earth so that I can use a neon switch; which of course requires a neutral. Obviously this isn't the conventional use of this cable, and I wanted to check the coding for the neutral wire. From the information I can find, grey...

    Cooker location - regulations?

Hi folks My aunt is looking to get new cupboards and work surfaces fitted in her kitchen. Although she has no desire to change or move her cooker, as I understand things she has been told that the cooker must be moved because of current legislation regarding proximity to a doorway. The...

FCU height covered by accessibility regs?

There are a couple of lights that I want to run - each will have it's own on/off with a SFCU to isolate the lot. Also I think I've heard the opposite view expressed on here (surprise!) that it's better to have a separate switch, even if the FCU is switched. I think the reason was something...

FCU height covered by accessibility regs?

Ah ... I'd misinterpreted it as "new installations". Re-reading some of the older threads that makes sence. Thanks. Apologies for the repetition.

FCU height covered by accessibility regs?

Can someone confirm that a switched FCU doesn't count as a "switch" for the puposes of the sockect/switch height accessibility building regs? I can't find anything that specifically mentions FCUs. The appliance (additional lighting in an integral garage) will be controlled by a separate switch...

Just checking ... immersion heater spur?

damocles - I agree that most people assume anything can go into a socket. And normally I guess that should be a fair assumption. So yes ... I 've come round to thinking the socket, at least is a bad idea. Also, I know what you mean about the shower pump. And strangely, since that's something we...

Just checking ... immersion heater spur?

Oops, missed the last paragraph of your last but one post Damocles. I presume you're referring to the design thing ... How would I be doing that if it's to work with two 150W lights and that circuit can accomodate the load? Again ... not being pedantic ... just genuinely trying to understand...
