    authority/member question on planning form

Does anyone know if a parish councillor would need to declare their position if they or their spouse submits a planning application? Ie is it just district and town councillors that need to declare an interest?

how to get rid of my builder

gnougnoume, speak to your Trading Standards office! Also I think you should name this person. He has obviously made everything up as he's gone on. The extras list is a joke, If you had competent plans drawn up everything should have been detailed, This is the way that I work for my clients...

how to get rid of my builder

I don't agree, any inspector worthy of holding his position would have flagged this build up as rubbish before it got to such a state if for no other reason than it's obvious that it doesn't 'comply' I repeat speak to your local BC department, speak to whoever heads it up.

    LED inspection light wanted

not bad but I would prefer a clip on type with directional light so that you get light just where you want it without being dazzled

    Loft: use as a bedroom

It doesn't sound as if PP is needed for the loft room unless it has a dormer. Building regulations may also not be mandatory if it's been there for 4+ years although it might be an advantage to get it 'regularised' to avoid difficulties if it's ever sold on

advice required on SEPARATING FLOOR in a flat above a shop

Was there a flat there before? If so you may not need a separating floor. The best way to achieve a fire rated acoustic floor if you don't want to do any work in the shop is to use acoustic quilting between the joists supported on chicken wire trays. The floor boards are replaced with resilient...

how to get rid of my builder

Get on to your local building control department in the morning before 10.30 and ask why they have allowed the extension to get to such a stage with such shoddy workmanship. Also speak to your local Trading Standards officer within your local council. When you say 'surveyor' do you mean that the...

Damages to neighbour - no Party Wall Act!

This isn't really a planning issue, a Party Wall agreement is a stand alone thing more connected with building regulations, but it's sounds like it's a 'simple' dispute between neighbours which you could preferably resolve by mutual agreement or involve solicitors/lawyers. Best to try to agree...

    hi everyone pp question

If I were you I would telephone your local planning authority (LPA) and discuss it with them. Depending on where the plot is and what is around it I think they might be quite receptive. Best to speak to the planning case officer who issued the consent, also worth trying to speak to their line...

    LED inspection light wanted

I've got one of the old 240V clip on inspection lamps but I would like an LED version. It could be battery operated if the batteries were up to it, alternatively cordless rechargeable. If re-chargeable it would be yet another transformer/adaptor to lose so the kit would be best in a case! Any...

    pitch of hip end

I'm designing an extension to a semi with a hip end to the roof and need to know if the pitch of the hip end can be steeper than the front and rear pitches. I can draw it ok but the existing pitch angle is 35º, the end would be 45º. Will this cause problems when the roofers come to lay tiles...

thanks, it's useful to see the imperial/metric equivalents as I didn't know that. Sounds like the boxed set is the one to go for. AJ

which type of Toolstation screw to use

I normally use Toolstation and need to get some GP screws for wood but there are some choices ie single thread, twin thread, Reisser screws, & Passlode screws. I don't know what is the difference is. Maybe I should just go for one of the boxed sets of 3400 with a range of sizes for £39.99? They...

old boiler using loads of gas

Well we are certainly getting 'real' old son as £900 energy bills for us isn't. Are you seriously suggesting that we dig up all our concrete floors as that doesn't sound too real at all!

old boiler using loads of gas

I've got a 15yr old Worcester Highflow 3.5. We are using 13 metered units which converts to around 145 Kwh every 24hrs at the moment, say £11 or so each day. It's a 4 bed stone cottage and although we are losing heat through the floors, walls and ceilings, the heating is kept on fairly low, not...
