I have got a pumped heating system running off an old back boiler on a y plan configuration. The problem is with the heating switched off at the programmer and the stat, the radiators still get hot could this be the 3 port valve ?

When you say configuration wrong do you mean the distance between feed and vent ? Or do you think the pump is causing pos pressure causing it to push the water out ?

After the central heating has been on for a while, when it clicks off there is a serge of water that goes up the vent pipe and into the F&E tank and it also makes a noise like air is bubbling in the system. The towel rail in the bathroom has to be bled regulary. The boiler is a Glow Worm Miami...

could be the paint thatwas used if old kind of gloss it stinks when it gets hot...............

Try some pin nose pliers but make sure you turn both valves off or if it does come out, you may have a bit of a flood. You could also try putting a bit of paper in the rad key and forcing it on.

I have come across something similar, try turning all TRV's off and see if it still bangs. then work back to boiler opening them and bleeding.

Is there a way i can just convert the central heating system that is in by adding expansion vessel etc ?

I have recently installed two small rads in my loft but the f&e cistern is lower than the rads. I have extended the vent pipe so it is higher than the rads and they are now getting hot but is this ok long term ? i was going to put a check valve on the feed pipe to stop it trying to push water...
