    Distance between spindles

    Is there a guide for determining distance between each spindle for a home staircase. I was planning approx 100mm between each spindle measured in a horizonal direction. Spindles are 32mm square saction, Could someone please advise?

    low boiler pressure

    Boiler has stopped working. Red light flashing. Bar pressure is 0.3 and should be minimum 0.7 according to manual. Can't get hold of plumber. I guess the problen is low pressure? How can I increase this to minimum 0.7 Any ideas??? :?

    Need to drill 50mm dia hole through outside and inside cavity wall. Facing brick on outside and thermolite blocks on inside. Where is the best place to locate hole: 1. through centre of outside facing brick? 2. or centred in mortar joint between facing bricks? 3. anywhere?

    About to tile bathroom floor. 300mm x 300mm ceramic tiles on plywood using flexible adhesive. Do I tile before fitting WC pan or fit pan first then cut tiles around? :cry:

    Screed thickness 30mm?

    Need to build up existing concrete floor level by 30mm. I have been told by builder that 50mm is minimum thickness for screed to ensure that it does not break up. Any other ideas to build up to required level? :cry:

    About to install new wooden frame windows into newly built extension. Walls are facing brick on outside with 75mm cavity and normal thermolite blocks on inside with fibre glass insulation. Do I need to place damp proof membrane between frames and brick opening :?: :P

    Uneven joints in brickwork

    Rough pattern red facing bricks with recessed mortar joints. Wall is approx six feet high with two feet to go to top. (Flat roof) Problem is that the larger joints are at eye level and very noticeable.

    Am I being over fussy? Having an extension built by local builder. Horizontal mortar joints between brickwork are not consistent some gaps between courses measure 8mm, all the way along the wall and others 15mm. Is it unreasonable to ask the builder to knock down and start again?

    Briklaying mortar mix - crumbly when dry

    Thanks Bondy for your reply - the mortar was laid on Friday. I didn't realise it takes a few days to harden, I thought in this weather as soon as it was dry then it was set as hard as it would get. Hope it hardens in a few days. 8)
