    oven element burnt out again

ordered a replacement element and made sure I chose the same one as the original - 3 turn, 2200W and paid a bit more to make sure it was the same one. When it came it was a 2 turn, 2000W element!! (Could have ordered this one for half the price!) Fitted it anyway, and so far so good. :)

    oven element burnt out again

yes Frank the fan is working fine. I've taken a photo to show the damage to the element and also the plastic covers on the spade connecters which have melted. Incidently, the original element was rated at 2.2kw but the replacement was 2.5kw. Although I don't know how much difference this...

    oven element burnt out again

I think you've nailed it Prince of Darkness, I couldn't find a part number on the old element so I looked on the internet to find a replacement based on wattage and dimensions. The replacement element was only £12, which as you suggest was probably 'sub standard' I guess the old adage is...

    oven element burnt out again

candy oven stopped working, pulled back off to find element had burnt out, all split and puffed up (taken on an appearance of cauliflower) I replaced it with a new one, which has worked for the last two months but has just gone again! Clearly something else is also at fault. I'm...

Worcester 24CDi - hot water problem

ok thanks, not sure how to do that so I'll try to get a plumber round to have a look. I was hoping that the symptoms may be a clear indicator for a particular fault. The reason why I ask is, if it is another expensive repair, say heat exchanger, then whilst the boiler is not that old it has...

Worcester 24CDi - hot water problem

I have the temperature dial on the boiler turned up to max, but the water is only hot if I have the hot tap half open or less. If I open any more the water comes out warm at best. I cannot fill the bath or use the tap mixer to have a shower most of the time. Any ideas please gentlemen?

    Thermostat wiring help needed

The new stat is exactly the same as the old stat, but I don't know from memory which wires go to which terminals. 2A presumably refers to 2 amp current on this terminal - I suspect this one is connected to the wire with in line capacitor. No instructions and no labels on the stat. I was...

    Thermostat wiring help needed

I've had a look but the terminals aren't in the same position as the ones on mine, so it isn't quite so obvious which ones go where...

    Thermostat wiring help needed

I have changed my faulty thermostat on my boiler (Baxi FS601RS) and took a photo to remember the wiring layout, but then had my phone stolen with the picture on it! Can anybody work out from my diagram which number wires connect to which terminals? Much appreciated.[img] p.s. I'm not...

painting gloss over eggshell on woodwork

I have previously painted doors, skirts and architraves in light green eggshell, which I want to gloss over in white. How do I need to prepare the surfaces please..?? Should I sand down completely/slightly? Do I need to use primer/undercoat? Any help would be greatly appreciated...

    Squelching noise in pipes

Felix you are a genius! I've been back into the loft today and yes you was quite correct, I had put an uphill gradient in the pipe run to clear a joist  I have changed the pipe run slightly now to keep it all level, and hey presto - No more squelching :D Thank you. and big thanks to the...

    radiator cold at bottom

Yeah the lockshield is fully open and the feed pipe is red hot. It's also the last rad to get up to temperature which again supports your theory. Don't much fancy putting bigger pipes in though, so I guess I'll just hope for an early summer :) Thanks again Kev

    radiator cold at bottom

It's a double panel rad with 10mm feed. I don't know when the change happened as it was in a house I've had rented out and just got back.

    radiator cold at bottom

The system is running off a Worcester 24cdi which works fine without any unusual noises and plenty of hot water. All the rads are hot upstairs and also the one at the bottom of the stairs, however, the large rad in the lounge is very hot from midway up and warm/hottish across the bottom. I have...

    Squelching noise in pipes

Thanks Felix I appreciate all the advice. I might have put a slight uphill gradient in without realising. I'll check in the morning. It's not a mixer shower it's just an electric. I've not fitted the new toilet yet so I've not even got to that problem :? It's a continental flush type. I take...
