Outside lights - differene between NYY-J and Hituf cables

Just to add, my main reason for asking is because it seems TLC has stopped selling Hituf cable.

Outside lights - differene between NYY-J and Hituf cables

Thanks for the replies. If NYY-J is easier to use may I ask why it's hardly mentioned on here and always the Hituf cable that seems to be used? Thanks in advance.

Outside lights - differene between NYY-J and Hituf cables

As some of you will know im installing some outside lights on my farm. Been looking on TLC website and they sell NYY-J cable which appears to be perfect for the job. From searching on here, seems Hituf cable is simular but used more often than NYY-J. Is there any reason for this? Was...

Can you fit 70w Metal Halide bulbs into 150w MH fittings?

Thanks for the reply. Did think so, but wanted to check. A guy has 400no 150w and 200no 70w for £10, and he says they work fine so hoping to grab myself a bargin. At that price, will get a few extra, and then can change the lamp if more/less light needed in a area.

Can you fit 70w Metal Halide bulbs into 150w MH fittings?

Hello, Ive been offered some 150w Metal Halide fittings. If they are too bright for the job, can I replace them with 70w tubes or is the ballest specifically for each wattage lamp?

Discharge Floodlights to outside of large farm building

Think it's just the price that's putting me off at the moment. £100 a light is over my budget at the moment. They do seem to be the lights of the future, when the technology gets even better

Discharge Floodlights to outside of large farm building

When you put it like that, I guess the extra instal cost wouldn't be that great compared with the running costs over a few years. Been tempted to get some of them LED floodlights that are starting to appear more common now, but don't think they would be bright enough for the job needed.

Discharge Floodlights to outside of large farm building

Thanks for letting me know that, had no idea. There has been one 400W discharge light for over 3 years now, and no complaints so fingers crossed I wouldn't get any with a second. Is it lights over a certain output which need planning permission? Only say that because a 70w discharge would...

Discharge Floodlights to outside of large farm building

Thanks for the replies.... Ricicle.. The cable will be surface mounted on the metal framework and wooden roof purlin supports. Only using the e 500w lights in entrances as very cheap to buy, and wouldn't be on long each evening, so wouldn't cost too much to run either. Just wondering...

Discharge Floodlights to outside of large farm building

Hello Guys, I would like to install 6x Floodlights to the outside of a farm building. 2x of the lights will be 400w Metal Halide to light up the fields near by. The other 4x lights will be 500w Halogen lights to light the entrances to the building. Most of the instructions for the lights...

Adding CCTV system to Consumer Unit

If cost wasn't a issue, then I think I would. For the meantime its just getting the wiring updated which should keep it from tripping. Had a look into a board with all RCBO's and seems would be a good idea, so at least will only take out one circuit if a fault happens. Will get my...

Adding CCTV system to Consumer Unit

RF, just noticed your reply. As my CU isn't split load, would I be right in thinking it would need to get the spark to change it to a split load to enable the new radial to be installed without the RCD protection?

Adding CCTV system to Consumer Unit

Thank for the replies so far. My budget is fairly low in afraid. The current set-up is on a Contactum single RCD 6way baord with the following: 2x 6A for 12 140W Flourescent Lights (6x on each MCB) 1x 32A for sockets 1x 10A for 3 100W Flourescent lights in a side building (supplied by...

Adding CCTV system to Consumer Unit

Thanks for the reply. I will be geting him to look in the fault as well. Just was thinking for added security, I would get it put on a seperate circuit so if any anything caused the RCD to trip it will still leave the CCTV switched on.

Adding CCTV system to Consumer Unit

Correct size Cable and MCB for workshop

Thanks for the detailed replies. I understand that should get a electrician to go over everything but without the funds to do so thought i would get some information from guys on here. Just to confirm the workshop has its own supply comming in and through a meter. A phase is then taken from...

Correct size Cable and MCB for workshop

Thanks for the replies. I traced back the earth wire from the CU and found it is just hanging down against the back wall of the workshop. Would this be causing the fault? Should it be connected to a earth rod? Earth wire looks as if its got 8 cores in it. Thanks.
