    cutting 100 mm table legs

So I elongated the riving knife adjustment slots and that works now but It seems the base plate is slightly bent and the saw isn't cutting at 90 degrees. I've got a 4 inch mitre box which I don't think has ever been used, so I'll give that a go. It's good to have other options.

    cutting 100 mm table legs

The riving knife has never been off since I bought it. It's on its second blade in 20 years but I'm pretty sure it's right - I'll check though.

    cutting 100 mm table legs

Brilliant. I think I need to take my angle grinder to the riving knife and trim a bit off. Or I've just thought of this, I can enlarge the adjustment slots. Many thanks.

    cutting 100 mm table legs

I need to lower my kitchen table by 35 mm. The legs are turned but the top is 100 mm square section. I have a hand held Skilsaw Duran, but it can only cut 65 mm max in one pass. I can't do a partial cut then turn the timber because the riving knife prevents the blade moving forward. There's no...

Bosch fridge/freezer KAG90A120G/08 ice maker problem

Follow up if anybody is interested. I got a replacement flap from Bosch - £19 inc post. Quite easy to fit but if anybody does this make sure you study where wiring and a couple of springs go before you take it apart.

Bosch fridge/freezer KAG90A120G/08 ice maker problem

OK I got it sorted. Well it's not fixed but I got inside. It's mainly a matter of slipping some thin strips in the sides then pulling out from the bottom after removing one screw. I was reading about special kits you can get but I just used a couple of old credit cards. The flap is activated by...

Bosch fridge/freezer KAG90A120G/08 ice maker problem

Looks like I'm getting somewhere. I've found a spare parts catalogue with photos so I might yet get inside. I've even applied to Bosch for help, though I suspect they won't tell me unless I'm a professional fridge fitter.

Bosch fridge/freezer KAG90A120G/08 ice maker problem

Yes it does, and it makes ice. There's a screw mechanism to drive the ice forwards which works, but it just won't let it out down the chute.

Bosch fridge/freezer KAG90A120G/08 ice maker problem

The ice maker on my fridge freezer has stopped dispensing. It makes ice but the flap won't open. I find that there is a solenoid mechanism behind the front control panel but cannot find a way to access this. I've found videos of people sticking instruments in around the edge and unclicking it...

boiler temperature went sky high bleeding rads

Sorry I wasn't clear. This is a gravity fed system with a header tank and it's got water in. There's an expansion pipe which drains in to the header tank and this wasn't hot at the tank. There's some sediment in the tank however so I wondered if this might have caused the problem. I had a...

boiler temperature went sky high bleeding rads

I went round bleeding all the radiators with the CH on. Two tall rads were a really slow to bleed so I turned the pump speed up. Probably a bad idea. When I got to the bathroom it got quite noisy and I looked at the boiler and it was indicating 99 degrees. It's a Worcester Greenstar HE, about 15...

Hanging radiator on lath and plaster wall

Genius. I’ve now found the studs using my own Special Tool (a length of 2.5 mm cable) and have cut out a small section of plaster to expose them. None are quite in the right place. I’m torn between cutting a couple of horizontal channels and fitting battens across, or removing a few short...

Hanging radiator on lath and plaster wall

I have a small 60x60 cm radiator on my kitchen wall. This is an outside wall, at least 150 years old with 2 layers of brick and a lath and plaster inner liner. I hung the radiator using spring out plasterboard fastenings, but a visitor has accidentally fallen and partially dislodged it, damaging...

    lath and plaster history

Many thanks. I’m actually trying to work out the age of my place. The wall from the 1860’s may have been done like that then. Another end wall also has it so I’m thinking this will be older. This is in somewhat worse condition and has already had some rooms redone with plasterboard by a previous...

    lath and plaster history

Not a DIY question as such, can anybody tell me if it's usual to have lath and plaster covering the inside surface of an external wall? My terraced house in Scarborough has parts which may be 250 years old. In 1860 they pulled down an end wall and rebuilt this with two layers of brick and a...

    Central heating thermostat

Regrettably they picture this model but haven't got any to sell.

    Central heating thermostat

Yes, batteries changed. The display started to scramble then it wouldn't switch on/off. I've temporarily fitted a Drayton mechanical thermostat with a dial. It's wildly inconsistent. I was happy with the original so hoping somebody makes an equivalent.

    Central heating thermostat

My Sunvic TLX7501 digital thermostat has just packed in and it appears to be no longer available. Can anybody tell me what a suitable equivalent would be. This is a mains wired 2-wire thermostat in a box 85x85mm. I'd prefer one with a digital display but not a wireless version.

    Conservatory roof

For anybody interested it dawned on me at 3 o'clock in the morning that maybe I can attach a ratchet strap between the house wall and the bottom of the glass and pull the glass up. It only needs to go an inch.

    Conservatory roof

Many thanks. Having spent Sunday morning looking it over, it's obvious that the original installers made a pretty terrible job of it. I think they must have known they were about to be fired. But at least I've got a good understanding of how it's meant have been put together. Only two of the...
