Original ceiling paper cracking - how to fix?

Nobody, I'm basing it on the fact that the person who owned the house before us was 94 and the rest of the house has all its original features in place. The neighbours tell us that as far as they know she changed nothing and she had lived here all her life. Would you have a link or at least...

Original ceiling paper cracking - how to fix?

Cheers for the advice. So water would soften it allowing me to manipulate it back into place with paste?

Original ceiling paper cracking - how to fix?

Hello, I have an 1879 terrace which has original ceiling work in the hallway. Since we moved in, and added an en suite type room above the hallway, we have seen cracking appearing in the patterned period paper which was on the ceiling. attached are some photos. How would I go about fixing...

    Heating woes...

Hahaha. Once again, seems obvious when you point it out! I'll put these suggestions to the missus.

    Heating woes...

Ha! Seems obvious now you point it out... But twice as much? The only difference should be shower time which doubles. Food cooking should be near enough the same... You're probably right. My folks are much lower than us too though. There's no definitive answer. Thanks for the input mate.

    Heating woes...

It's a friend of mine, who lives a couple of doors down. He cooks with gas, his shower comes off the boiler, he has his heating on 2 hours more than us per day, and lives in exactly the same type of house as us. Thanks for all of your input, I guess there isn't an obvious thing to check like...

I know that it's the same for everyone this year, but double the cost of my neighbour's bills? We are on a dual fuel, online billing and direct debit deal...

Oh right, sorry I should have mentioned I'm looking for a chain that would appear in most towns... that isn't B&Q...

    Best place to buy wood/timber...

Thanks! I didn't really think much about buying online, which is strange since I buy literally everything else online! I'll take a look...

    Best place to buy wood/timber...

A simple question, now I've turned my back on B&Q and their rip off prices, I'm interested to know where people get their timber? I'm only looking for domestic quantity, nothing in bulk. The kind of thing I'm looking to do is box pipework in, build cabinets in alcoves etc... Am I looking...

    Heating woes...

I did consider this, but my showers are 2-3 minutes long, got a bargain on the shower and I fitted myself.

    Heating woes...

Period was one month and gas readings were submitted by me. It has been over £100 since November, but I guess compares well to yours. Ours is a mid terrace, circa 1870, with double glazing, adequate loft insulation and solid walls.

    Heating woes...

Loft insulation has been checked and is the regulation depth. Walls are solid so no cavity for insulation unfortunately.

    Heating woes...

Hi guys, I'm having a bit of a crisis. Our gas bills are twice/three times as high as our neighbours, with exactly the same type housing and insulation. Last month my Gas bill was £105, and the heating was on for 6-8 hours a day. The boiler is a HeatLine Monza 24, and was installed...

    Bad condensation in back room...

Thanks John, Great advice! Just to confirm, how high up the wall do I make the vent? Is the kit just for the bits or is that including a dril too? Could you link me to a specific model, if you don't mind? The room actually used to be a bathroom, but now the nearest bathroom is about 4...

    Bad condensation in back room...

Great, thanks John. What kind of sizes? The room is about 4m x 4m. I'm not sure I can insulate the ceiling as there's apparently lot of messy woodwork as the apex is very small. There's no access into the apex unless I make one. It is on the first floor, so there's wooden flooring underneath...

    Bad condensation in back room...

[/url] Actually no, never. The room is very cold, as it has three external walls and there's no cavities, or insulation in the apex above it.

    Bad condensation in back room...

Hi guys, I need some advice on what to do with condensation in a room I have in an extension on an 1870 terrace... I have read that a good solution would be to add an air brick, but I'm concerned about draft. Is there a similar solution? Which wall do I choose to make the vent? A more...
