    Do I just undo the 2 clips on the plastic bowl and then dump all the water and grey substance, or is that grey stuff needed ? After this should I make sure the boiler goes into syphon fill mode so it refills the trap ? Thanks

    thanks for that, I read it before but it didn't make sense the first time. My pump doesn't have a manual switch on it, for modes 1-2 but I could tweak the service settings via the panel to test it. not sure if that worked but basically forcing the shaft to turn with needle nose pliers fixed...

    I popped it! changed the 10R resistor for a new one and it blew it and the 3A mains fuse straight away, the drivers must be shorted. need to scrape off some of the green coating so i can read all the chip numbers then test/replace. bearings are nice and smooth now though ; )

    yeah the impellor was the easy part! the tricky bit was getting the cooling fan off to find a tiny circlip and removing that intact without tiny circlip pliers. then removing the bearing protector/locating seals, divoted in place. I'll post some pics if you like. the extra Z on the end...
