Can I plaster over electrical cables?

Hi, since I moved into my house I have had a blackbox in the centre of a wall with a cover plate on which looks awful. I have removed the cover and tested the cable and it seems to be dead. I can't find a switch anywhere that might supply it so I'm assuming that it's been disconnected at the...

    Dishwasher isolation switch always on

Hi, I have replaced the isolation switch for a dishwasher. Now whether the switch is on or off there is always power. I have wired up the same way the one I removed of the first picture, replacement second. Can I assume the switch is faulty or have I done something stupid?

    Tanaka Brushcutter won’t start

Ok so since you mentioned that when I pull the starter cord the first pull always feels like it should. The second pull probably 50% of the time comes straight out like it's not connected to anything. I have to wait a minute before I feel like I'm pulling something again.

    Tanaka Brushcutter won’t start

This one doesn't have a primer bulb. I tried the way you suggested but still no luck. I just saw that there is a slow fuel leak from somewhere so I suppose that might have something to do with it.

    Tanaka Brushcutter won’t start

Hi, I’m a novice at engines so trying to work my way around a small one. I bought a Tanaka TBC-2000 brushcutter that was advertised as not working. The guy I bought it from said it was working perfectly but fell over in the shed and wouldn’t start since. I went over to get it and he demonstrated...

Remove Novar ED&S wireless alarm system

Hi, I moved into a new house fairly recently that is fitted with a wireless Novar ED&S alarm. It has 2 PIR's, control panel and bell box. The previous tenant left s 2 key fobs but no code and I want to remove it and fit a new system. I removed the 2 PIRs which set the alarm off so I know the...

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

Looks like I wasn’t going far enough out. I peeled back the insulation and found the damp patch in the pictures. It’s raining really heavily right now and there’s no roof leak so I think it must be seeping in from the gutter area.

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

This is the area, when I first noticed it it was about 15cm by 5cm. I’ll go back up later after work and move some more insulation to see if I’ve missed something.

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

If I lift up the insulation there doesn’t seem to be any damp under there that I can see. The damp patch is towards the exterior wall and I’m pretty sure there’s no insulation where the tank was. There’s like a small wooden platform that I’m assuming the tank was sat on but the patch is under an...

Expanding Damp Patch on Bedroom Ceiling

Hi, I moved into a new property about 4 months ago, soon afterwards i noticed a small brown mark in the corner of the ceiling but thought nothing of it, recently I noticed that the patch has grown considerably and is damp to the touch. It seems to have become more severe since we had our boiler...

    Toilet does not fully flush

Hi, I have just moved into a house with a toilet that has a dual flush valve, the type that is screwed into the cistern lid with a plunger on the bottom. It seems to sit too low on the cistern and when I push it it only half flushes the toilet. If I remove it and then push the top of the flush...

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

The tap is fed from the mains and it’s about 15 l/min but the tap has an aerator on it so presumably it would be a bit more? I’m just an average diyer so don’t think I can measure the pressure.

    Low pressure thermostatic shower

One other thing that we are doing is replacing the boiler as it's really old and not very effective. I was thinking of switching to a combination boiler, am I right in thinking that if I do it will negate the need for the hot water tank in the airing cupboard and cold water tank in the loft? If...
