Hi, since I moved into my house I have had a blackbox in the centre of a wall with a cover plate on which looks awful. I have removed the cover and tested the cable and it seems to be dead. I can't find a switch anywhere that might supply it so I'm assuming that it's been disconnected at the other end for some reason. Would it be ok to remove the backbox, put a few wagos on the wires and then plaster over it?

I'd track wire and pull out.
Remove back box
Fill in.

Might be dead now but one day it could be powered up with other electrical work being done.
Should always remove cable

Probably an old wall light. Have a look behind the switches. If you're lucky there may be a redundant cable there. Do a continuity test to check that it is the same cable. If it is then you can plaster over.

Otherwise, as above, there may be a hidden switch which could liven it up. If there's any doubt then put a blank cover on the box and paint it the same colour as the wall.
