Is it worth replacing an old working boiler?

We have recently purchased a house with a system boiler + vented tank heating system, that seems like it's in pretty good order. Boiler is a floorstanding Potterton Kingfisher (42kw i think) and tank is a standard copper tank with insulation. The controls are a bit old so I could replace those...

Is it possible install beam and block flooring on the 1st floor of an existing old house (build circa 1930's)?. Texecom Keypad Garbled Text

I think I know the answer to this one - that I need a new keypad but thought i'd check. The keypad display is showing up as garbled on the 2nd line, and the number 6 isn't working. I was moving the keypad to another location, and I think i might have accidentally touched the live (red) wire of...

    Home Water Booster

Hi, We currently have a Grundfos Home Booster which is boosting water for the whole house (mains water flow rate is low). This has developed a leak so needs to be replaced or repaired. No idea how much a repair would cost, but wanted some advice on what options I have for replacing it. This...

    Hotpoint Aqualtis tripping circuit breaker

Wondering if you can help me troubleshoot our washing machine that keeps tripping the circuit breaker. I think some water got into the plug and that caused the circuit breaker to initially trip. Since then the machine does it continually - we've tried other appliances on the socket and they seem...

    Wintex Software

Hi, Could someone kindly give me a copy of the latest Wintex software please? Have just ordered a 24 Elite panel but don't think it comes with the software. The texecom site only gives it out to registered installers. Ta!

Permission to raise roof height for loft conversion

I'd like to do a loft conversion and currently have a 1.9m height in the loft from plasterboard of ceiling below to bottom of ridge. I'm thinking of putting in an application to increase the height of the ridge to 2.3m and have a rear dormer up to that level. What is the best way to approach...

    Boiler tripping electrics

Have a problem i'd like your advice on. Our boiler started tripping the electrics occasionally, and eventually blew a relay in the control centre (honeywell smartfit) - possibly a short circuit. I replaced the control centre and the same thing happened after about 20 mins of the boiler coming...

    Texecom GSM Com Issue

Hello, Have installed a GSM com unit into a Texecom premier 24 panel and am having an issue with it signalling out on an alarm condition. Sending it an sms for status returns an sms with the alarm status just fine (armed/disarmed), but it won't send out a SMS on an alarm condition. The ARC1...

    Vaillant Weather Sensor help

Any ideas on which component is inside this vaillant weather sensor? It looks like moisture has got into it and damaged the component (wasn't sealed correctly), and i'm having trouble finding the replacement. From what I understand, you can't get the VRC693 (sensor) separately from the VRC430...

    Grundfos HomeBooster Service

My grundfos homebooster unit is working fine, but has the 'requires service' or similar message on the screen. Is this something that is done on an timely basis or is the unit complaining about something being wrong? If you guys have any tips on what is usually checked as part of the service...

    Building control for new drain?

If we're converting our garage into a utility room for a washing machine, and subsequently need to create new drainage, is this notifiable to building control? Manhole is about a metre away from the garage, and we can get a builder to install a new soil pipe, but i'm not sure if BC need to be...

Adding PIR to Texecom premier - turning off bellbox

I've recently installed a premier 24 with 3 PIR's and external sounder, and I wanted to know how I disable everything to add some new door contacts. I'm comfortable with using the engineer code and turning off mains power / disconnecting the battery, but how do I stop the external bellbox from...

Grundfos Home Booster not going above 3.6 bar

I have a Grundfos Home Booster fitted (the inbuilt pump and tank solution), and if I put the high pressure above 3.6bar the pump keeps going, almost as if it's trying hard to increase the pressure. If I keep it at 3.5 bar with a 2 bar differential then it behaves correctly. I'd like to increase...

    Extractor vent for Dormer

What would be a good external vent to use for a dormer roof (the vertical side)? The dormer has slate tiles, and the extractor requires a 100mm spigot. Cheers

    Loose Spindles in Bannister

We had some oak spindles fitted, which were fine, but with the cold weather the spindles have become quite loose and rattle about a bit. Is there any way to fix this? I'm not sure how they were attached, but as they were fine before, I think this is to do with the wood shrinking a bit. cheers

Thermostatic Bar Mixer shower flow rate

Is there a flow rate limitation for thermostatic bar mixers to work correctly? We're hoping to put a largish rain shower head to a bar mixer, which requires around 25 litres per minute. Assuming this flow rate can be provided by our system, would a standard thermostatic shower work ok? (not sure...

What duct for MDPE in suspended floor?

We've got a MDPE supply pipe coming into the property, and it is currently insulated with grey foam insulation. Whilst the flooboards are up, I was thinking of putting some ducting around the pipe in case rodents take a liking to it at some point in the future. Is there a special type of duct I...
