    Temporary repair to garage ridge

That’s exactly the kind of thing I am looking for. Thank you. It has felt on top but there are a few small cracks where water is getting in. This should be more than enough for a couple of years. Thank you again

    Temporary repair to garage ridge

I have an old 1950s concrete sectional garage. It is an asbestos roof with felt on top. I have a small amount of water ingress around the ridge. I don’t want to replace the roof as I am going to replace the whole garage in a couple of years anyway so I am looking for a temporary fix. The roof...

    Membrane for rafters in loft

Perfect. That was exactly the product I was looking at. Correct, the insulation is clear of the eaves. Ventilation is pretty good. Thank you.

    Membrane for rafters in loft

I have a cold loft with 300mm of insulation with boards above. The space will only be used for storage. There is no felt under the tiles (1930s house) and as such a lot of dust blows in. Can anyone recommend a light-weight breathable membrane that I can tack to the underside of the rafters just...

    Creating a new opening

I'm not really fussed if it's a lad down the gym or an acro attachment. As long is it holds my wall up! No the ceiling isn't coming down.

    Creating a new opening

Strong boys are normally big boys too aren't they? Thank you for the reassurance. The joists do bear on the wall that is being removed. Might be a bit hard to getting the skirting off upstairs though. Is that likely to be a problem?

    Creating a new opening

Hello I have builders coming to create a new opening for us. They are planning on using acros and big boys to support the outside skin of the cavity wall. Which seems pretty standard. For the inside skin they are going to support the floor joists from underneath which will in turn support the...

    Carpet and underlay thickness

Thank you. The bottom frame of the window is 85mm deep, but it can be fitted with a low threshold. Therefore the builders need to go below the floor level by 85mm minus whatever I plan as a floor covering. So if I have a 20mm floor covering the base of the frame will sit 65mm below floor level...

    Carpet and underlay thickness

Thank you for your reply. I didn't make myself quite clear enough. We are having builders in to make the opening and we need to calculate how low down they need to go. The fitters say they need 85mm from the top of our floor coverings. So if I assume that most carpets and underlays are around...

    Carpet and underlay thickness

Hello We are having bi-folds put in and need to work out where we want our threshold. We havent picked carpets yet, but it is for a living room. We want nice, but not luxurious carpets. The underlay will probably be 9mm at the most. What kind of thickness should we allow for carpets? I can't...

    2 gang architrave dimmer switch

Does anyone know anyone who makes/sells 2-gang architrave dimmer switches (one above the other)? I can find single dimmers and dual switches, but not dual dimmers! Many thanks

    Floor rennovations

If you look at it like an L-shape, on the long sides it is about 2/3 meters and about 0.7m deep.

    Floor rennovations

There are quarry tiles on top of the slab and this is roughly flush to the boards. I was going to knock off the tiles and use a self-levelling compound to make it perfectly level between the two areas and then ply on top of that.

    Floor rennovations

Thanks Richard, really appreciated! Just one more quick question... I should also put a membrane down beneath the ply and above the concrete, correct?

    Floor rennovations

Thanks Richard, things are becoming a bit clearer now. In the kitchen I have a mixture of floorboards and a concrete section (which I guess originally had the boiler, cooker and sink on) - see attached. If I put marine ply across both surfaces and tile on top of that, that should be ok? The...
