Pipe/cable in garden - what is it?

Found this about 2ft deep and 4ft from property wall. At first I thought it was a water pipe but the bend in it now has been wondering if it's mains cable?

Cracked concrete floor prep for self levelling.

I'm in the process of prep'ing a concrete sub floor. I just want to make sure I've done everything correctly before the self levelling. The concrete has quite a few cracks in it, which are also high points. So I've been grinding these down which has opened them up a bit and they will now need...

Underfloor heating: What's the best option for me??

Hi, Renovating the kitchen where I have a concrete sub floor with some cracks & high points. What's the best option to lay underfloor heating on-top of this on a budget while trying to keep additional height down to a minimum. I will need to grind down the high points but do I really need to...

    Triming door jamb header

Had the bathroom floor tiled now the door doesn't fit. Door is 78" & the door way is now 77". Can I trim about half an inch off the door jamb header and half an inch off the door? Or should I start looking for a new door... (I'd rather not).

Any ideas? New CU keeps tipping.

So I've had a new cu installed but I had to move it so a 63A isolator was put in between the metre and the new board. Now we have a problem. The new shower and the main ring are tripping the board as soon as any load what so ever is put on them. I could almost understand the old mains ring...

Shorten doorway with an extra stud with no sole plate?

I'm tight on space and I should have made my doorway 24" but I made it 27" I was thinking about just butting up another length onto the studs making the door frame or even just butting two up on one side but that would make it 4 studs deep! - is this sort of hack OK? Obviously there would...

one hole for sky + coaxial.

I'm considering shifting where the sky cable comes in so that I don't have to run it along a wall in sight. I was going to run the coaxial TV cable with it at the same time and just have them coming in the same hole, is it OK to do this or is it better to drill a hole for each?

    Help/Advise Stud wall

I knocked out the doorway and surrounding wall in a cupboard that is being converted into a shower room. I was planning on butting a stud wall up against the remaining wall to close off the room. However, what I thought would be a single skin brick wall wasn't. It was this really thin...

    Extend internal bricck wall.

I've got a cupboard in the upstairs hall that I'd like to turn into a small bathroom. I'm planning on knocking away the wall (more just a door surround) with the door and then extend the remaining wall to run across the hall and incorporate a door frame. What's the best way to do this... I...

Building alcove unit and plaster is not true/flush/level.

I'm wanting to build in a floor unit with some shelves above in the alcoves either side of my chimney stack. The problem is that the middle of the back wall in the alcoves is about 8mm deeper than the corners. I guess this is due to the corners holding more plaster than the centre. I don't...

Opening chimney, requires strong boy, lintel etc. (I think?)

So I want to install a wood burner. Had a minging 70's style giant brick brick monstrosity thing in there originally so I took that out. However, now I'm left with some crappy brick work and no obvious lintel - so much for finding a nice arch... So. I'm now thinking this is beyond my limited...

    Removing floor tiles, possibly asbestos?

Lifted off the lino and found not one but two layers of tiles under it - urgh. The first tiles (mock red brick effect) seem to break off no bother. But the grey ones underneath are stuck down with some black gunk that sometimes lifts off with the tile but mostly requires scraping. I had...

    Is my boiler hooked up??

Just moved in and not sure what the deal is with my boiler... Not had a chance for a really good poke about yet but I can't see a gas meter or where the gas comes into the building. Below is a pic of the boiler the pipe going out the wall (not the condensate pipe) is capped off. But it was...
