    most voice sound proof underlay

do i need to buy an expensive underlay to have the best soundproof underlay, for carpet? I would like it to be cheap to fit. I have very high ceilings so thickness is not a worry, as long as people can still walk through the door frame without bumping a head. I found "quietfloor plus"...

sink waste pipe slants wrong way

under the kitchen sink is an almost horizontal waste pipe for the sink and washing machine. only trouble is, it slightly slants back, (not down, towards the outflow). So water is collecting in the pipe under the sink. It's not a huge slant - you can only tell if you look carefully. Is...

i have engineered wood oak in the bathroom

I take great care NOT to get it WET but the lady i live with is less careful and often splashes water. should i be very concerned about the floor lasting long term? she knows water would damage it but probably doesn't notice splashes.

    door slams and vibrates

when the door is shut, it rattles in the wind, because it's loose I guess. What is the proper solution to this? I bought some sticky back foam from £land but it was green and looks terrible. I since had it removed (which tore off paintwork) then filled it and repainted. Now the door still...

    Wood flooring botched by installers

I paid for installing of engineered wood flooring in a tricky shaped area of 8m sq. However, the team failed to even use underlay to even out one significant area that was uneven. As a result, that area is very squeeky as the new engineered boards move when walking over them, as the boards sink...

    Rough quote for floor leveling?

How much would I be looking at for parts+labour for a good experienced team to level 8m sq (small hallway and bathroom)? How about that plus 2x 10m sq rooms? (IE total of approx 28m sq) Would they do it according to the method described in the sticky? How to level a very uneven wooden...

    heating timer

I have a danfoss boiler timer (the common type in England for the last 30+ years with a round dial). I don't want 4 different on/off times.... only 2. Can I change that?

    heating timer

can i remove 2 of the blue/red catches, so 2 remain instead of 4? i dont need 4 periods on the timer. if not i'll just leave it on constant. (the unit was annoying positioned right next to the boiler so u have to crane your neck to barely see the constant/water only/ timer switch lables)

Much benefit to foil faced radiator lining?

Up to 25% of heat can be lost to the wall, according to what I've read. I have a radiator on a stud wall (and the other side of the wall is not mine). Would a foil faced lining be worth the ugly factor?

I am picking out a tumble dryer to buy, choice is between vented or condenser model.. Vented ones might be best... and i want a quiet one. It would go in the kitchen, with its back facing the outide wall..

    Cost effective sound proofing

I live in a flat in a very old London building owned by a housing trust. The floorboards under the carpets are creaky and the entire place has exactly zero sound proofing. It's like living in the same room as the neighbours sometimes. I know when the ones above go to the bathroom, move...
