How to tart up my gate?

Howdy. I like our arched iron side gate, but don't like that you can see through it (like in the picture). Anyone know of a solution which could be attached to stop people being able to see through? Like a privacy screen. I don't want to get a whole new gate as the structure is fine, and am...

Best method of removing multiple dead weeds

Hi all. Lots of little dead weeds on our driveway that need removing. Ordinarily I'd simply use a long-handled weed scraper, but the position of the bricks means I'd have to do a bazillion little scrapes to clean it all up. Is there a solution that would remove the dead weeds over a wide area...

    Felt roof leak

Hi all In heavy rain we've got a leak from our flat felt-topped conservatory roof that first appeared a few weeks ago. Can't see any noticeable tears or rips in the felt, which lends me to think it's a small gap between the felt sheets into which pooled water is running through (see picture)...

Why won't nut 'catch' thread of rad valve?

Hi all. Replacing old rad valves with TRVs. Two of them I'm struggling to get the nut on the pipe to 'catch' the threads of the new valve. It seems to be 1 or 2mm away from the threads, so can't screw it on. Anyone else know what to do in this scenario, please? I thought maybe the inside of...

3/4 to 1/2 inch reducers - are these required at both sides of radiators?

Hi all Am installing TRVs. Some of the old rads need 3/4-to-1/2 inch tail 'reducers' to accommodate the 1/2 inch TRVs. Question is, do I also need to reduce the outlet/lockshield valve end, or can I maintain the 3/4 inch valve on that side of the rads? Thanks all!

How to trim a door jamb along its internal edge? Door won't close properly

Hi all. My lovely new internal door won't easily close because the inner/hinge-side edge of the door is too tight against the jamb, when it's being closed. I want to trim a mm or 2 off the inner edge of the jamb, so the door can close properly, and sit flush against it. I'd prefer to do it...

Deteriorating hot water temperature from one (mixer) tap - no clear solution!?

Hi all. Any obvious reason why this mixer tap is delivering increasingly cooler water? Was never very hot to begin with, but is now delivering only lukewarm/cold water. Flow seems ok. Boiler, CH and all other taps above and below this one are all working fine. Any advice much appreciated

    Confusing odd situation!

Hi all. Is there any reason my voltage tester pen would continue to give me positive readings from all the sockets on a particular ring, despite me switching the whole ring off, checking with a multimeter, and double-checking by plugging appliances into the sockets? Ring is off at circuit...

    Leak from conservatory roof

Anyone have an idea why a slow leak (5 drops of water this morning; no rain, but freeze-thaw conditions outside) would appear at the apex of this conservatory roof? Aside from the flashing and roof surface being slightly 'away' from the window (I've since pushed them back against the window)...

How to create a professional-looking join between a melamine desk and the real-wood strip running around it's edge....

Hi all Am building a desk. Plan on using a thick melamine board for the body of the desk, onto which I'd attach (via glue/nails) a decorative real-wood strip/fascia around it's edge. I'd like to avoid having a noticeable 'lip' between the board and the fascia, as you'd likely see/feel it as...

Creating spring-loaded/spring-back blinds for conservatory Windows. Genius or potential disaster?

We have a very hot conservatory. We need blinds for its high angled glass roof (see pic). We don't want blinds which have wire 'tracks' which the blinds run down, as the wires spoil the view when the blinds are open. We don't want electronic blinds which are built into a frame, as they're...
