    Lights Blowing

Cheers Fellas, especially JohnD, just had a look at the MCB's and that will be ideal for now. They only go off when a bulb goes, which isn't too often, and other than a complete rewire, which isn't an option at the moment that will save a lot of fiddling around.

    Lights Blowing

We had a new kitchen last year and the lights are now Halogen downlights. Whenever a bulb goes the all the lights in the house go out, which is apparently down to some kind of surge. The main fuse box is the old type which requires the wire replacing etc. and obviously all the lights are on the...

    Very Noisy Toilet Cistern

I assume the ball valve is the arm with the ballcock on the end. If I lift this manually and close the valve the noise stops, but obviously the water stops refilling. Is it likely to need replacing or maybe just cleaning as it looks a bit mucky ?? Cheers John

    Very Noisy Toilet Cistern

I posted a problem last week when my shower was losing pressure when the temp was increased (still not fixed, but bearable for now). Over the last couple of days, when the toilet is flushed and the cistern is refilling, as it nears the end of the fill it starts to make a very loud foghorn...

    Shower Pressure / Temp Problem

Thanks Bahco, it is a problem that has just started and not your normal reduced flow due to cooler temperatures. Is it worth getting a new thermostat fitted or would it be more economical to get a new shower ?? How do I check whether the feed is blocked ?? For what it's worth when the...

    Shower Pressure / Temp Problem

Since yesterday, when the shower is switched on, it started running too cold from the setting it has been on. When the temperature is turned up the water gets hotter but the flow of water slows the more you increase it. I realise that this is probably some kind of pressure problem yet...

    Light fitting

Cheers Breezer. As above, the light fittings are double insulated and need no earth. I assume this still applies even though the actual light switches are metal ?? Have got junction boxes etc. thanks.

    Light fitting

Thanks for your reply Breezer. 2 things now though, how big roughly is a junction box as their isn't a lot of room to play with, and do they come with cable already attached as the new light fitting just has a small block to put the connecting wires into, and not any actual cable you can...

    Light fitting

Have bought a new light fitting and when I have taken the old one down their was an earth wire connected (old fitting is metal). The new fitting is primarily wood and only has a block for 2 wires to be connected. The new fitting also has the double insulated sign on it, a small square within a...

    Halogen Floodlight / Smoking

Its switched off until tomorrow now when it's light again. It looks like the rubber gasket or seal around the glass has moved after I've fastened it up and some of the rubber from the seal is overlapping inside the lamp. I think this is what it is but will have to wait for light as it is up...

    Halogen Floodlight / Smoking

I've just fitted a new halogen floodlight outside and when I've turned it on and its been on for a minute or 2 smoke starts coming out from the unit. The smoke is coming from the unit where the bulb is, and not from where the wiring is and appears to be possibly from the rubber seal around the...

    Thermostat / Breezer

It does say on Thermostat I bought " Gas Filled bellows means no neutral connection " From your last message, do you mean the single core red is likely to be the neutral ??

    Thermostat / Breezer

Thanks Breezer. When I said there were 3 from old one. What I meant is that from the wall their is a 2 core cable with red and black plus the earth, and their is also a 1 core cable that is red. I have assumed that the 2 reds are live and switched live. Does this sound about right ?? Thanks...

    Thermostat / Breezer

There were 3 wires from old one, not including earth. 2 from 1 cable, Red and Black with earth in as well, and a single red one on its own. Are Live and switched live the 2 red ones ??

    Thermostat / Breezer

Breezer, you probably remember me and my thermostat from a couple of weeks back. Fitted new thermostat, though now nothing seems to work, no hot water etc.. The clock timer that switches heating on and off etc is also not working. Have checked fuse and this is OK. Is everything...
