Have these ceramic tiles been laid properly?

Hi folks, A friend has had these ceramic tiles laid in an outdoor office - also over underfloor heating. This was a pro job not DIY. Hasn’t yet been grouted. Should there be this much (or any) discrepancy in height as shown in the images? TIA

Complete novice so please explain slowly o_O Had to take off rad to decorate wall. That bit went well. Put rad back on and reversed the process. Opened lockshield valve > Opened up thermostatic valve > Bled rad. Radiator is still cold. All others are hot. Took off the thermostatic valve and...

Cutting in on second coat - dulux easycare

Just finished 1st layer of boxroom using Dulux Easycare. Didn’t trust my cutting in skills (and thank God as the paint is mega thick!). used yellow frog tape and painted one wall at a time then removed tape to stop it peeling paint when it dried! For second coat, do I need to mask up and...

Box room plan of attack …

Thought it best to ask before making a mistake … Painting a box room one colour. Should I be brushing all edges of 1 wall, then rolling … then move into next wall (and repeat for second coat). I don’t suppose I need to tape the adjoining walls if all will be done same colour but I’m worried...

    Stinky loft ...

not sure if I'm posting in the right place here ... Our loft is starting to smell like a sewer. I think this is the culprit. There are stains on the flooring and on the insulation. Also in winter this year, a lot of condensation was forming on the roof membrane and constantly dripping to the...

    Paying twice for a job?

Hi, We had our extension painted by a decorator we have used for years. On this occasion, the decorator noted that the quality of the walls wasn't great due to various shelves having been removed over the years etc and the the gaps being polyfilled etc He said after a complete sanding and...

    Outdoor porcelain doorstep edging

Hi, Got 2 600x600 22mm porcelain pavers for a doorstep extension. The step overhangs the brick base by 30mm but I’ve only just realised the porcelain isn’t black throughout - the sides are cream coloured. How can I deal with this as we don’t cream showing on front and sides of step. Looked...

    Carpet refresh ...

Can anyone advise whether we can get this carpet back to anything like it's original state? It's 22 months old. It's only a lounge carpet and typical footfall for 2 adults and 2 kids. When we bought it the chap told us we wouldn't want a long pile in the lunge as it would end up going too flat...

Making good vertical gaps in skirting

DIY skirting board installation. Only used mitre box and looking for a solution to make good the mm gaps that are left behind. Is there a specific type of caulk that would work best prior to painting? I know the job isn’t a pro finish by any stretch so be kind! Cheers.

    Transition strip / threshold solution

We have a 4.5cm gap where our patio doors have been removed. The concrete is pretty much level with the laminate but the carpet is a bit higher. Can anyone suggest a type of strip which would deal with this transition? Also needs to be 2400mm in length. Thanks

    Laminate floor vapour barrier (1)

Hi, I’m laying a vapour barrier on concrete slab before installing underlay fibreboard and laminate. Is the vapour barrier supposed to be stuck to the plasterboard - say up 1or2 inches? Or should it go under the plasterboard? I’ve already removed the skirting. thanks

    Porcelain tile overhang

Hi, Complete novice here but fancy a bit of DIY ... Laying 2x 600x600 porcelain tiles as step in front of our doorstep (so 1200x600). Mrs wants brick surround but if I'm taking typical dimensions of bricks that will mean on the front and sides the tiles will overhang by 4cm. Quite like the...

    Moisture in loft and OsmaVent

Hi. This last few months we've noticed a musty smell in the loft and pretty much all of the roof membrane (if that's what you call it) has little condensation drops on it. Not sure what is causing this as it's never happened for the previous 9 years but I will be double checking extractor...

    Replacement remote

Hi, Does anybody know what remote this is and where they can be purchased from? It controls 4 internal spots (3inch diameter) and 4 external spots. I'm afraid I don't know the lighting brand. Many thanks. PS - Does anyone know if these can be controlled via Alexa? :sneaky:

Removing patio door frame & brickwork

We have a Spectus patio door frame between our lounge and conservatory. We've already had the doors removed. We were hoping to remove some plasterboard and pull the frame forward but we've found out that 10-15mm of the frame is behind brickwork ... which we don't want to touch. We can't find...

    Do we have an RSJ?

We live in a RedRow property built 2010 -Broadway Design- and we are removing the patio doors at the rear of the house. Does anyone have any experience of the homes to advise whether we have an RSJ? I was told by a chap who worked on our roof he was 100% certain a home built in 2010 would have...

    Patio door removal - stuck!

Hi, Having trouble removing the 2nd sliding patio door. 1st came out by removing the 2 plastic inserts at the top of the door (see attached). I’ve managed to remove 1 of these on the second door but the other is positioned behind a metal ridge that runs top to bottom on the door (the part which...

Draft under patio & damp concrete

Hi, Lifted porcelain tiles a few weeks back and removed cement. Some of that cement was under the patio door base frame. Now there is a draft coming from that area (we can also see a black membrane). Is this simply a case of ‘plugging the gap’ / using sealant before levelling and installing a...
