Masonry - painting garage and wall etc

I'm in a period of unemployment and trying to stop myself going crazy by doing things around the house. I'm focusing on my decking and my garage. With my friend's pressure washer I am cleaning off the decking and the garage with a view to repainting both. I think there is a small leak in my...

    Curtain Rail or pole?

Thank you, I will send this thread to my dad to look at as he's taking over this project, lucky chap!

    Curtain Rail or pole?

I would very much welcome some advice on how to proceed with my new curtains - whether to have a pole or a rail. I have just bought some curtains with big holes on hem so they would go better on a pole (and I'd prefer one). However, my window is a half bay window (if such a thing exists), so I...

Odd question about blue loo discs

This is a ridiculous question but the only place I can think to ask! Do blue loo discs not last as long as they used to? Mine seem to last just over a week at most and as i work full time I'm not a prolific flusher. What am I missing? I've tried putting one at either end of the cistern but that...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Update: I bought a new hose, ditched the rubbish plumber and got a handyman to fit a new trap and the pipe. He did a great job and cost £50 so I am relieved. The smell seems resolved as well! Thank you all so much for your help.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

So the plumber has said I will either need to move the pipework closer to the dishwasher or have the trap changed and get a pipe extension - something about the trap going straight across which isn't how they are made nowadays. He said that he had made the hose as short as possible, as I'd...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

@Johntheo5 wasn't telling me I needed to buy anything - he was explaining the purpose of the high loop as that's what I have to get sorted. My plumber still hasn't rung me back. He's going to feel my wrath!

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Ha, absolutely not! Although I did get a great electrician from there. So ... you win some, you lose some.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Thank you all. I will ring him this morning. I got him from CheckaTrade but it's not the first time I've had my doubts. Once I get this sorted I'll be looking for a new one.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

So it needs to shoot up and then down again, just not with all the length that it did have. Is it expecting too much if I ask the plumber to come up and sort this? I kind of thought he would know what he was doing with this kind of thing.

    Drying out plaster

I think that's what happened last time and why I needed to have it replastered as there had been a leak there for some time. I really hope that doesn't happen again, I don't want to spend out another £150!

    Drying out plaster

Thank youy - it's bonding, so I probably would need to put the heater on for a bit. Will it stay different colours? I keep hoping that I'll wake up and it's all turned the same colour.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

But if I get an extension won't I just be making the hose longer again? Or was it too long in the first place? I'm sorry for being stupid, but I am not sure how making the pipe any longer will improve the situation unless I hook it up a bit higher but not as high as it was before.

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Oh for heaven's sake! Even when it was looped higher up I was getting the smell. I'm confused now. Has he done the wrong thing? Given that he sealed up a bath panel when it was still wet underneath I'm not surprised though. Can I buy these non-return valves?

    Drying out plaster

I had some plastering done at the end of December. Unbeknownst to me there was a leak building up under my bath as the overflow pipe had come loose. My plumber came and sorted the leak, but then sealed the bath up again when it was still considerably damp underneath, so the plaster went fuzzy...

Dishwasher on ground floor - plumbing issue?

Hi again all - dishwashergate continues. My plumber came and shortened the tube considerably, but there is still a smell coming from the dishwasher although not as bad as it was. I clean it regularly with white vinegar and bicarb, and scatter bicarb around it to remove the smell. What more can I...
