    Oil boiler flame intermittent

I decided to give it a good clean out - took the baffles out etc. There were quite a lot of rust flakes in there. Gave it all a good hoovering and a blast out with compressed air... and... it seems to be working OK now! Steve

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

As far as I know, it's standard. It was installed before we bought the house so I don't know for certain. Steve

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

Yes, I understand that. What I'm saying is that it appears that there isn't actually a leak, it appears to be coming out of the end of the exhaust and beaing drawn back into the inlet. Steve

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

No, no snorkel, it just draws air in from channels inside the boiler connected to the inlet. But yes, as I say, if I take the cover off so it gets air from inside the garage, it runs OK. Today it's as bad as ever, cycling every few seconds. If I slide a large piece of card between the outlet...

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

We're not on Orkney 'mainland'. He has to fly over or take the boat. And stay all day. And at this time of year, run the risk that he won't be able to get home because of the weather. So we either have to wait until there are enough people needing him, or stump up the entire cost ourselves. Last...

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

I'm on one of Orkney's outer isles. I did say it was difficult to get a pro here, I wasn't making it up. Anyway, it looked to me like the cone on the end of the flue wasn't sealed very well, so I've sealed it with mastic and that has definitely made an improvement (thanks, outinthestix) but...

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

I did - a few months ago, and it's likely to be a few months before I can get another one here. Like I said, it's difficult. A remote island is a great place to live, but occasionally has its disadvantages. Steve

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

Thanks - I did wonder if it might be something like that. The intake and flue are separate pipes; the flue has a 'cone' on the end of it, and I see in the installation instructions that the top of the intake, just below it, (which is cut off at 45 degrees) is supposed to touch the back of...

    Oil boiler flame intermittent

I have a Firebird Oylympic Boilerhouse boiler with a Riello burner and a balanced flue. It starts OK, but sometimes the flame is intermittent - keeps cutting out and relighting a few seconds later. Sometimes it runs for several minutes before cutting out for a few seconds, sometimes it's on...

    Zanussi WJS1397 w/d timer problem

I put a meter between the brushes, and when the relay clicks, there's a very brief indication of a voltage. But the motor does nothing. But yes, I think it's time to call out an engineer. Thanks for your time. Steve

    Zanussi WJS1397 w/d timer problem

I've checked the brushes and they seem fine. I've noticed there's a relay clicking which I guess is supposed to make the motor start, but isn't.

    Zanussi WJS1397 w/d timer problem

Yes, if set to spin, it empties but doesn't spin. I've left it for quite a while and the timer doesn't seem to turn at all. How long is 'long enough'? It did go through a very brief period where it started the drum, but there was a clicking, the lights flickered and drum sort of 'stuttered'...

    Zanussi WJS1397 w/d timer problem

When a programme is selected, it will perform the first step and then the timer just buzzes and doesn\\\'t turn. E.g. when a wash cycle is selected it just fills, for a spin cycle it just empties but doesn\\\'t spin. Is this almost certainly a faulty timer or could it be something else? If I...
