    Repair asphalt roof/balcony

Our flat roof balcony, about 9 metres x 6 metres above a ground floor shop, is asphalted with promenade tiles. There are some water leakage issues into the shop below. We are also keen to know that the support structure has not deteriorated in any way and is still sound for continued use of...

    Leaking downpipe & moss

Our black plastic down-pipe has moss growing from three leaking areas near the joints. Please advise the likely causes and how it should be repaired. I have added a photo of each of the 3 joints. Many thanks.

    Asphalt box gutter

Thank you Bazbee. Your recommendation sounds interesting for me. As regards the possibility of rotten timber underneath, it is probably best to eliminate that possibility first before my repairs. I will ask the shop underneath to check to see if his ceiling is showing any signs of it.

    Asphalt box gutter

Are you suggesting removal of the existing cap sheet and to have a new lead box gutter? Due to the cost restraints of having a 6 metres long replacement lead box gutter by a professional in London, I may have to look for alternatives. Most probably, lead would look nice and last a very long...

    Asphalt box gutter

Here are my pictures of the box gutter. I think it is asphalt. I am concerned about the bubbles - not knowing the reasons that might have caused it to go like that.

Our rear flat roof asphalt box gutter has slipped and is rippled in places. It has bubbles. Any ideas, why I have this situation? What can I do to make it all smooth and sound again? I would appreciate your advice.

    Rising damp?

Thank you for your response. I have answered them as best as I could. Wall and floor construction? Answer. Concrete floor, brick wall. Whats going on externally? Ans. Nothing unusual. There is a patio to the front of the room - about 3 metres away from the affected area. Whats are...

    Rising damp?

Our internal wall is going crumbly and the paint on the wall flakes off. It does not feel damp to touch. The affected area is about a metre from the floor and about two metres in length. The rest of the wall and other adjoining walls including the exterior wall have not shown any signs...

    Cowboy builder

I suspect I have been dealing with a cowboy builder. He took advantage of my lack of supervision when repairing the cracks to the front of our building. I asked him to remove the paint from one of the lintels to reveal he did the job as per specification. He failed to come back to do...

    How do I add inhibitor?

I wish to add inhibitor into my condensing boiler central heating system. I removed and replaced a radiator without adding any inhibitor. I am assuming the system would have some inhibitor left in it from when it was introduced originally. I am hoping to add inhibitor into the system...
