Hi, a friend of mine has had a new meter installed. The installer said to her you need an earth. Volt drop question...

    When calculating volt drop at design stage for a ring circuit. Can you halve the result for the 2 legs of the ring? For example: 2.5 T & E 20 metres Volt drop = cable length x design current x (mV/A/m) / 1000 Therefore: Volt drop = 20 x 32 x 18 / 1000 = 11.52V voltdrop. Do i...

    Current Carrying Capacity question...

Just wondering - 2.5/1.5 T & E has a Current Carrying Capacity of 27A when clipped direct (method 1) and is recognised as the standard for ring final circuits, as per OSG. With minimal correction factors this can easily be increased to above 34A. Straight away we have to increase the cable...

    230v or 240v

What do people use for their calculations??? I've seen so much contradiction in books. Some say you must use 230v because thats the European harminisation. And some say you must use 240v because thats what it actually is......?? :?

    Time/Current characteristics for....

6A Type B circuit breaker to BS EN 60898. The 'current for time' in BS7671 is 0.1 to 5 seconds disconnection time for 30A of current. I'm looking at the chart (fig 3.4 on page 199) and the 'time, seconds' line actually goes upto approx 12 secs. I don't understand why? :?

    R1 + R2

Does it matter what circuit you take the R1 + R2 measurement to add to Ze for your EFLI? GN3 methods show the R1 + R2 value taken at each ceiling rose in a lighting circuit and to record the circuit extremity reading then add to Ze. I understand this, however, what about R1 + R2 on other...
