    Advice on Meters Please

Thanks sparky. Matty, if bidi stands for bloody idiot domestic installer you'll find that the idiot ones are the ones that don't ask the questions, rather than the ones that do. Wonder how many electricians die of smugness? All you guys that help me without such comments - many thanks...

    Advice on Meters Please

Many thanks for that. Don't want E7 and I'll get the isolator installed, and also the earth block. EFLI tests are OK, so I'll pass on the PME for the time being. Thanks for your help

    Advice on Meters Please

Sorry JohnD I want to have a new CU installed, to 17th edition regs. I've assumed I'll need the tails to be 16mm. The new CU will be installed by a NIC reg'd electrician, I just want to understand fully first. Do the small tails come from the back of the LH meter? Thanks.

    Advice on Meters Please

I'm looking to install a new CU. The feeds are 10 mm so need updating, but if they come from the meter then can I upgrade them ? Really I'd like to get the old E7 meter (if that's what it is) removed, and get the tails upgraded to 16mm and install a new CU. Should I get the redundant meter...

    Advice on Meters Please

Need help with the above meters please. I see some form of timer meter which I guess is something to do with economy7. Two black and red feeds (looking about 10mm I think) feed the fuseboxm they seem to come out of the back of one of the meters. How best to resolve this? Can I simply call...

Supply from Supplier feeds Next Door Too!

Thanks guys. I'll call the DNO and see what they'll do. Wiring in the house certainly does have rubber insulation. Is this necessarily an automatic rewire ? It may sound a dumb question (perhaps it is!) but the reason I ask is that the house is owned by an elderly couple who could do...

Supply from Supplier feeds Next Door Too!

Hi. This is a picture of a supply to a middle-of-terrace house. The conduit goes through to next door, so it would appear that the one main incoming cable feeds both houses. Am I right to be concerned that a) the main fuse for next door is in this house (not mine, a friend's) b) the...

I would suggest the safest thing is to call the LABC and ask them. Mine are very helpful.

    Lighting - switch wiring

Hillsy, what I do is to remember what goes where. Masking tape, paper and pen. Switch terminals are generally marked L1 L2 and Comm. All I do is attach masking tape to each wire, with L1 L2 or Comm written on it. The wires going across the switch is the live feed from one to another - you'll...

    Integrated Fan & Shower Light

Thanks Taylor. I will do as you say re the isolator. RCBO on the lighting cct should satisfy regs as well as avoidance of nuisance tripping? Work needs to be notified. Thanks again for your help !

    Integrated Fan & Shower Light

Fitting an integrated shower light and fan, 12v, transformer in the loft. There will be other downlighters in the bathroom also. Shower light will have a switch on the wall outside the bathroom, the others a dimmer (using MK Gridplus). Does the showerlight/fan need a seperate isolator, or...
