Basically hot water is fine but when it appears to have filled the tank the central heating switches off- the pilot light is still there but it is not firing up.Checked all thermostats etc.

Can anyone help a newbie please? This morning no heating/hot water but the pilot light is still working. Someone suggested it could be the thermocouple? If so can that be done by me or do i need to call out a plumber? My concern is that i don't get ripped off!
