    MK Consumer Units

Thanks for pointing out the time delay RF, that detail was overlooked in my question, but not in the plan. The set up is going to be as you have described, 100mA S type RCD, MCB (or RCBO, if it existed) for the garage and RCBO for the remaining circuits.

    MK Consumer Units

To satisfy John's curiosity, the reason behind the 100mA RCBO was for a feed to a detached garage. The supply is indeed TT and a new board with mainswitch is to be fitted. The garage supply runs through the property in pvc/pvc and then out of the building in SWA, hence 100mA protection for this...

    MK Consumer Units

I was looking through the MK C/U design catalogue for a 100mA single module RCBO, when I found a picture of how to configure a board. http://www.mkelectric.com/Documents/English/EN%20MK%20Catalogue/MK142-0610Aen_DOWNLOAD%5B1%5D.pdf I don't think I want to follow their designs! Apart from...

    Help with crimping

I think that both joints were made with stranded conductors for the experiment. That said, I have not been able to pull a solid joint apart by hand yet.

    Help with crimping

After a discussion, crimps v screw joints, a work mate and I set out to prove which was the stronger. A jig was set up and a pull applied either side of each joint. The screw terminal joint pulled free with only 15kg load. The crimp joint held beyond 40kg. The only failures I have seen are...

How old would you estimate my CU is?

Looks like TN-S. Cannot see the detail, but the earth appears to be made off on the incomer. Check if it runs directly from the service cable into the CU

    What capacity is this fuse?

The "fuse" was installed by the residential site owners. The supply cable is protected by a 63A MCB in a distribution cabinet about 25m from the property. As you can see it is TN-C-S at the metering position.

    What capacity is this fuse?

I was asked to look at installing a replacement shower recently, the customer said he was thinking of a 9.5kW unit. He wanted to know if the existing cable was up to the job, the (very) old unit was 7.2kW. After checking the size of the existing cable I checked on the incoming service fuse...

    Megger LTW325

Yes BAS, plenty of time. As it is a new piece of kit to me, I was doing a few tests, then comparing the results with my old multifunction and back to the 325. The results were comparable but just seemed to start from a different base value each time I did the Zref bit.

    Megger LTW325

Do any of you guys use the Megger 325 loop tester on a regular basis? Has anybody noticed any major difference in the ELI when obtaining the Zref (same reference point) for a second or third set of tests? I was using a new meter recently and found the Zref was not consistent. I...

Has anyone tried out the NICEIC "Free Trial" Certification Software yet? (Spring issue of connections mag) I have tried to run the trial on vista and cannot get beyond the set up stage.

Interesting stuff from old Ed's of the Regs.

Does anyone know where previous editions of the regs can be found? I started working with a local electrician when the 13th or 14th were the standard of the day and would be interested to read through some of the old regs.
