    MCB Rating for hot tub

As long as she is suitably rated. I have a suspicion the main CU will be 60A. The fact that it's the old 'fusebox' style CU doesn't give me much hope. I believe the hot tub is one those models that turns off the heater when the pumps are running, so it's unlikely to be upgraded...

    MCB Rating for hot tub

The garage is off a 30A fuse on the house CU... so as you say.. not much spare capacity! This is what prompted me to check on using a 32A MCB rather than an unobtainable 25A one. If I use a 32A MCB in the garage for the hot tub, then it'll likely never trip due to the 30A fuse blowing in the...

    MCB Rating for hot tub

It all makes sense... sorry, forgot to mention the cables specs! I'm using 3 core 4mm SWA XLPE with a run of 20m (Voltage drop = 6.5v / 2.6% if my calcs are correct?) The garage has a 40A 30mA RCD and I've fitted a 32A isolator approx 5m from the hot tub on the outside garage wall.

    MCB Rating for hot tub

(I believe), to accomodate the initial surge of current when the pumps are first started up?

    MCB Rating for hot tub

Hi, Just looking for some help if you don't mind? If I have a hot tub which is rated at 20A, then + 25% would mean a 25A MCB... but since I can't seem to find 25A MCB's anywhere... what do I do? Surely if I go for a 32A, then I'm risking damage to the hot tub should a fault occur...

    Isolator Switch Question

Well... regardless of who/what the NICEIC are etc etc, I'm just interested in installing electrics that done correctly, and more importantly... operate safely. Thanks again to those who have helped.

    Isolator Switch Question

Just want to say thanks for your input on this. I'm not happy with the socket installation being so close... so I'll tell them to go down the route of getting a wireless speaker system instead. Any ideas on the earth rod requirement though?

    Isolator Switch Question

I'm not convinced about the sockets either. Especially since they only going to be used for an iPod dock. I can think of much safer ways to get music wirelessly to the tub... albeit slightly more expensive. Plus, you know how it is... iPod dock today, but give someone a socket, and they'll...

    Isolator Switch Question

The socket will be on the outside of the enclosure (the gazebo, not the tub enclosure!), mounted 2m up from the ground. Would you think that is okay? Yeah, I've also heard that hot tubs are treated in the same way as swimming pools from an electrical perspective.

    Isolator Switch Question

Thanks 'thompsk' for the quick reply... I will admit, that switching the earth would seem like a very odd thing to do, but it's best to check! I also totally agree leaving this sort of stuff to those that are qualified... I decided that I wasn't going to do any more electrical work a few...

    Isolator Switch Question

Hi all, I wonder if you could perhaps offer any help. I'm doing some of the electrical work involved with installing a hot tub  From the CU in the garage, the total cable distance to the tub is about 20m. The tub power consumption is 4.7KW, so by my calcs, that approx 20A with the...

    New Cooker installation

The switch is within 2 metres, but regarding the dog-leg comment.. is this a reg or is it just best practice? The existing cabling for the cooker ran diagonally from the isolation switch?!

    New Cooker installation

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help clarify somethine for me please? Friends of mine are currently having their kitchen refitted. Since I've done a fair bit of electrical work in my time (though not so much these days!), they asked me about moving the main cooker switch (its current position...
