What kind of paint is this and prep required?

It could well be an exterior smooth paint, the texture looks to be the actual wall not the paint. If it’s peeling like that I’d say the wall are powdery, rub your fingers over the exposed part of the wall, do you get residue on your fingers; like a whiteish dust?

    Silicone bleeding onto paintwork

Hi people, has anyone else seen this, silicone creating this kind of bleed onto the walls, it looks like it was done after the walls were painted as part of a kitchen fit. All the units are white gloss finished MDF. Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this issue. I have the joy of...

    Casement window profile (Wooden)

Hi all, I’ve been tasked with replacing a couple of damaged casements, on both of them the bottom rail has failed and is rotten and unfortunately it has also affected the styles. I’m going to remove them both and temporarily board the openings while I work out the profile, although one of the...

Can anyone identify this mortar mix

Just decorating some railings and the brick top to a pillar is crumbling and is in dire need of pointing, can anyone identify the mortar mix from these images… The owner seems to think it’s a lime mix with silver sand?

    Grind a damaged square

Hi all, I lent one of my squares to a mate and it came back butchered, I could have decked the **** Basically he used the square as a guide to cut some quarry tiles with an angle grinder so the outer edge is, well, nigh on ruined. The positives are the top and bottom of the outer edge aren’t...

    Boiler not level

That’s what worries me, they have said it’s just the casing but I’m not so sure. They are coming back to sort it and I’ll be there this time, not paying until it’s done right, the boiler is a Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000, I’ve sent an email to Worcester Bosch regarding the fitting as I don’t...

    Boiler not level

Hi had a boiler fitted and it looks tilted, I thought it was possibly the window making it look out of true but the window casing is as near as damn it level (.1deg vertical) so I put my level on on the boiler casing and it’s 1.4 deg off vertical, so it might just be the casing that’s been...

Flat roof - felted with gravel (Internal leak)

Just noticed I have a leak from my flat roof right in the corner of the room. Need a temp method of repair to stem the ingress of water. Weather is foggy and damp, it's a north facing garden and I hear a asteroid is about to hit my location. Putting aside the asteroid disaster for a minute...

Glazing putty problem - gone gooey.

Its not an opinion, it is fact, the failure of the product is exacerbated in part because of poor maintenance as mentioned above but if a product just turns into sticky chewing gum when located in a full sun south face, a few layers of paint microns thick isn’t going to stop it melting nor...

Glazing putty problem - gone gooey.

Butyl putty shouldn’t be fitted to a south/south east facing elevation, it just isn’t up to the job, on the north face of the house its fine. Internally the butyl putty looks like porridge its really is dire. Having said that the woodwork was poorly maintained and this was a major factor in the...
