    Anyone know what this is?

Er technically not, that's all I know. Spoke to a nice man at a spring company who knew what I was talking about. More info here: http://www.assocspring.co.uk/pi_garspr.asp

    Anyone know what this is?

They are apparently garter springs - one application of which is in oil seals Thanks for all your help Katie

They look like they should be stretchy if that helps?

    Anyone know what this is?

Wow! So many replies! I forgot to tick the "notify me" box - sorry guys. OK, Jo is a girl (my sister). The picture is of a necklace made of lots of these rings. I would say that they are about 1cm in diameter for the whole ring and the coiled metal that makes the ring is approximately...

    Anyone know what this is?

Hi, I am trying to find some of these (picture attached - shows them strung on to a piece of cord). They look like very fine springs which form a circular loop. Any ideas? All the merchants I have tried have no idea what I'm talking about. Thanks! [/img]

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

Thanks Breezer, I think I have the problem solved. I phoned the manufacturer and spoke to the tech support guy who said that I could just disconnect the wires going into 'dim' and 'com' and treat the L1 and L2 connections as normal with a normal switch. However, since the last time I took the...

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

I can't post my photos - this forum won't let me, although on closer inspection the switch/luminaire/whatever you call it is actually made by Home Automation - it's only the blank switches that are MK. Weird. There are 3 red wires and one black  reds go into L1 and L2 and 'com' and black...

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

The lights dim to the same colour white as when on full, very white. I have got a (not very good) digital camera so will have a bash at photgraphing the switch tomorrow! Brilliant idea Thanks chaps, you are great. :D

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

My fault entirely. I set up this login for my sister when I was at her house and the first few names I tried weren't available so I went for something longer! I used have used hyphens to make it clearer :) She's a bit of a computerphobe so I thought I would do all of the correspondance...

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

Hi Mr Ban-All-Sheds again. my rather stupid name is jo-needs-help-with-wiring, jo being my sister (I am Katie). Thank you for your help with the other problem, the radial circuit thing. My sis got it checked out and we successfully extended the radial circuits yesterday. In answer to your...

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

Hmmm, moon, cheese.... The lighting in question is tube lighting - fluorescent. Does that make a difference as to the converting to a normal switch question? I haven't taken the face plate off again to see what's connected to each terminal because it's dark, so with the power switched off I...

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

It looks like there are 4 wires coming out of the dimmer switch - red and black. There's only one switch for the lights in question, so I don't get why there would be 4 wires. Can I just twist the reds together etc and put a 2 terminal one way switch on?

adding sockets to a radial circuit

Thanks you again ban-all-sheds! I will definitely suggest an inspection to my sis. Think I've got the gist with the whole adding sockets to a radial circuit now... I asked two questions in two different places because as I learnt more and looked up more stuff I realised that I had asked the...

adding a spur to a radial circuit

Thank you so so much - you've clarified everything for me. Feel totally confident now. I really appreciate your help!

adding sockets to a radial circuit

Thanks ban-all-sheds. What's Part P? We were planning on adding a spur to each existing socket on the radial circuits with a double socket on each, but one with 2 single sockets. Would I effectively add a spur to a spur for the single sockets or have all of the cables going into the original...

adding a spur to a radial circuit

Thank you very much for your help. The specific point I am unclear on (and cannot find information about anywhere) is this. I understand that I should only put one spur on each existing double socket. On one of the double sockets I want to put 2 single sockets. Do I wire both single sockets into...

adding sockets to a radial circuit

There is no main ring circuit. I am trying to help my little sis who has recently bought a 1920's 2 up 2 down. The wiring is clearly more modern than that - don't worry. It is a weird fuse box - very clearly labelled. All of the fuses are 15amp, except the cooker fuse which is 30amp. The radial...

replacing a dimmer with a normal switch

Is it possible to just replace a dimmer with a normal switch? My dimmer switch is v temperamental and won't always go on so I took the casing off and had a look for any obvious loose connections but all looked OK. Am not desperate to keep the dimmer and I have a spare regular switch which will...
