    Unbelievable….No CU

Indeed, you can get Consumer Units with fuses but I suspect the iPad toting 20 something, living in this apartment would rather have some shiny new RCBOs to play with, the next time he plugs in too many phone chargers, Wii accessories and laptops ??? And the point I was trying to make, as I...

    Unbelievable….No CU

Interesting.....havent been at this game as long as some of you guys, so it was a new one on me. Take the point about seperate protective devices, I guess no reason why not when you think about it ! But Ban All Sheds is right, those are cables are way too thin. Oh well, will keep me busy.

    Ext HD on Minibook

Been looking at buying a small notebook, such as the Maplin minibook or the Elonex ONEt. The spec says you can’t use external hard drives even though they have USB sockets. Anyone know why this is or better still has anyone got one and tried it?

    meter tails

Thanks securespark. You were still as reluctant as the others to tell me exactly where in the book to find this but I have anyway. Its 433.1.1 on page 73. So the answer is that with a 60A fuse 16mm tails comply with the regs. Whew, got there in the end.

    meter tails

OK, time to put this one to bed. Lectrician & nozspark both quote that tails “have to have a higher current carrying capacity than the main fuse”. What page in the regs does it say that guys? I'm struggling to find it. I have read section 54 as Spark123 suggested but cant find it there. I...

Thanks, having a read now. Its PME

    meter tails

Thanks securespark & nozspark for two pertinent yet conflicting views. The particular installation in question has a 60A fuse, so according to one view 16mm conforms, albeit not best practice. What page of the Regs' are you looking at here so I can check again myself?

    meter tails

No prob Mikeyd. But to get back on track, what is the point of installing fatter tails than the incoming supply's?

    meter tails

Mikeyd, you are correct. What I suspect we both meant was Main earth 16, Main bonding 10mm.

    meter tails

Thank you for your reply oharaf Well as I hinted in my post I did suspect they had to be 25mm, I was more trying to establish what the point was (other than because it says so...) if the supply company's cables are smaller? The main bonding is 16mm and the sup 10mm, now I have changed...

    meter tails

Been asked to change CU for someone. They have an old board with fuse wire and just want something newer. All the circuits test up OK my only query is the meter tails. They are obviously an old imperial size, somewhere between 16 & 25 mm. I don't go that far back but I'm sure some of you do! So...

Stuck in the middle - 16th to 17th editions - Opinions?

Quite right Fireball. After all if you knew everything you wouldn't need to ask. I thought the whole point of a forum such as this was to seek out advise, not put yourself up for ridicule? I fairness to Clic-sure, his advise, if a bit curt, is at least constructive. As for adding RCD...

    Proffesional Indemnity Insurance

I have never ripped anyone off in my life and have always tried to do the very best job I can, whatever it may be I am asked to do. It p*sses me off when I don't get the same from others... By the way, get a sense of humour Softus.

    Proffesional Indemnity Insurance

Thanks gas4you, in fact that is one off the places I have already been looking. All the companies the search finds, that do PL for around £70 will not offer PI. Those that do offer PI charge much much more (twice) for the PL part which you are obliged to take as well. Unscrupulous so and so's...

    Proffesional Indemnity Insurance

Yes, I'm sure I can pass it on. Its not so much the actual amounts involved its the relative difference in in quotes. One being over 100% more than another for the same thing. While £1.25 may not buy much, £100 will buy several rounds of drinks, even at you're London prices. Which I feel a much...

    Proffesional Indemnity Insurance

Sadly i've just renewed my PL but maybe I can cancel it. I will check out the companies Taylortwocities recommends first. My PL was about £80 for £2M. The combined policies I managed to find were in the order of £250 but the PL element was around £180, well over twice what I pay now, PI part...
