    LED Mirror

Hi - anyone know of a mirror - ideally 600 wide by 800 high with the shaver point and IR sensor (or switch) on the LEFT? The one supplied and all others I can find on line have these on the right and there isn't room between the unit and the wall to plug a razor in of for the sensor to work...

    Extractor fan selection

Hi - I'm installing the ducting for a holiday let with extractors in the two en-suite shower/wet rooms, a kitchen and a shower attached to a sauna. I've sized them all and am looking at in line duct fans for the two shower/wet rooms of about 240m3/hr and about 25dBa at 3m. This is over spec...

MSF100 Switch fuses and amended regs

I need to install a second switch fuse for a separate supply to an extension. Would prefer to use this model as they are small enough to fit onto existing board in a small cupboard where the supply enters the house (and leave room for the extra RCD that's now required) but concerned that they...

Anyone had experience with these or similar makes? Look useful especially for lighting circuits?

Extending cables to move a consumer unit

Yes I have to say I wouldn't recommend the Part P course as it never really established what it was aiming to do. I got the piece of paper I wanted but we spent a long time on very basic stuff - looking back there was a lot of padding - probably to up the fee. The 17th Edition wiring update...

Extending cables to move a consumer unit

Woa!! I was responding to someone who asked about the Part P course and I certainly wasn't claiming that it equipped anyone - least of all me to claim they were an electrician - that has involved years of work, experience and training.

Extending cables to move a consumer unit

Thanks to John - very helpful. With regards to Part P my course was 4 days with an exam at the end. It is mostly focussed on building regs aspects of electrical work and is supposed to (I understand) be aimed at other trades who need to undertake electrical work as part of their own work -...

Extending cables to move a consumer unit

Yes I'm competent - fully qualified Part P and Wiring regs 17th Edition - I just don't do a lot of work these days and hence don't pay for the registration any more so if I do work like this I always do it under building control supervision. I've always used adaptable boxes and screw connectors...

Extending cables to move a consumer unit

Hi - doing a small job which involves extending cables to move a consumer unit. Always used connectors to do this before but advised recently I should use crimped connectors. Any thoughts?

    Vynckier CU

Thanks to everyone for your helpful comments. Eventually decided to use a crabtree RCBO (Wylex and Hager also fit apparently and I believe Wylex and Crabtree are the same thing anyway!) from Denmans - who were very helpful but don't stock the Vynckier comptaible stuff any more either...

    Vynckier CU

Sorry fgorgot to add - Senate don't do Vynckier compatible stuff any more - were very helpful but with no solution unfortunately!

    Vynckier CU

Thanks for your help everyone. Wylex RCBOs fit but I can't find one over 40 amp and this cooker needs a 45 or 50A one to be sure (it's 103kw max load). Denmans appear to do a 50A one so I'll chase that up tomorrow. I've got the qualitifactions but not the experience yet to decide on how...

    Vynckier CU

Hi - a customer has a Vynckier CU and I need to add an RCBO for a cooker circuit. I can't find this make in any catalogue - do you know if other makes fit? Andy

    Lighting for barn

Thanks guys I'm really grateful. Just one follow up - what would be the lowest energy option - given that we're all trying to save the planet and this is a brand new installation which will hopefully be around for a while?

    Porous block walls

Hi - I've just completed 250 feet of 9 foot high 9 inch re-inforced block walls around a farm building and now find that they get wet on the inside when the rain drives against them. They are filled with concrete. Does anyone know of a good product with which to seal the outside? Andy

    Lighting for barn

I'm trying to get some advice on the most efficient lighting to install in a 4 bay agricultural barn - each bay is 20 by 36 feet and 15 feet to the eaves. The building is new and I want to do the best I can to install low energy fittings. The advice I've had so far is to use 'low pressure...

    SWA Cable sizing

Thanks chaps - appreciate the detailed replies. We've put 16mm in and it's working fine. One final question (i'm not an electrician but I thought I understood the basic physics...) - why is the cable size recommended as 10mm with a 3% drop and a bigger cable size with a smaller drop - or am...

    SWA Cable sizing

Why is it that a supplier on this site states that 4mm SWA cable has a current carrying capacity of 45 amps whereas my local electrician now tells me it needs to be at least 10mm if not 16mm? The run is 100m and we need a 32 amp supply to run a small welder - otherwise it's only for lights...
