Sealing and cleaning - Topps victorian mosaic floor tiles

Hi, just laid some of these in a little front hall, black and white, porcelain quarry tiles. On the advice of the guy in Topps, sealed before and after grouting with topps unpolished protector. Cleaning them is still a real pain though. Dirt seems to really stick to them and is hard to shift...

    Simple tiling question

I hope ... Small space, 5' x 4', have prepared/strengthened joists and noggins and will tile with 8mm porcelain quarry tiles, mosaic style, each "main" tile is 4.5cm square, longer border ones, 14cm by 2.5cm. Not a bathroom or wet area. To bring it up to floor height I have a couple of...

    bay roof insulation question

Hi there, looking for some general info from the experts! I have a double fronted 1870s terrace, bay windows on the ground floor only. The bay rooves are pitched, lead covered and have no insulation inside. They join the house at the level of the downstairs ceiling and a bit higher than the...

    Shires Tap Parts Problem

Hi there, hoping for some advice on tap parts. Bought a shires bathroom suite last summer but only fitted it at Christmas. The bath taps are the Azur mixer/telephone shower model - http://www.shires-bathrooms.com/controller?action=displayobjects&tier=4&superclass=8119&sclass=0&prodid=8124...

    elbow joints and water pressure

Cheers, just wanted to hear someone say that the elbows should be ok. The're very old basic bath taps, nothin fancy. They'll be replaced soon though so I'll try without the flex fittings then and see how it goes.

    elbow joints and water pressure

flex tap connector, sounds possible, might try that. thanks. Valves are open. Used PFTE, 3 turns, but was prety careful with it. Don't think there's an airlock, very short single run at present. Do you think the 3 compression elbows could have a noticeble effect on 22mm pipe? Coupled with...

    elbow joints and water pressure

Just replaced my old galvanised steel tank and lead pipe with 25 gallon polythene and copper. The cold feed was just a lead pipe from the underside of the tank which was bent 90 degrees over to the nearest wall, bent again to lead down the wall, bent under the bath and up to join with the...

    Cold water loft tank problem

excellent, that sounds like just the job, easier than trying to cut my own washers. I'll pay more attention to what I've got loaded on my drill in future! Thanks a lot, Richie.

Cheers, it's a 22mm, can you get bigger?

    Cold water loft tank problem

The washers are right for the connectors and do cover the hole but probably just not by enough. I think the problem is that as I'm tightening it the connector can move around a little and as it tends to one side I proably end up with a little bit of the hole not covered by "enough" washer...

    Cold water loft tank problem

Hi there, replacing my steel tank with a plastic one and removing some lead piping. For the hot feed, thought I had the right hole cutter in my drill but, oops, hole was a bit too big, not bigger than the washers but not a snug fit on the tank connector and now having troble sealing it. Just...

baxi barcelona, thermistor or control pcb?

Thanks for the advice, you're right, I had the wires connected. Without the wires on it's reading open circuit on a cold pipe, I take it the point of this flow thermistor is to measure the temp on the flow? Thermistor 1 lasted 4 months after I moved into the house, might have been there for...

baxi barcelona, thermistor or control pcb?

Hi, looking for some advice on my barcelona. Christmas before last I had to replace the flow thermistor and ignition pcb, one to get it to stay lit and the other to get it to spark. Last Christmas I again had to replace the thermistor to get it to stay on until the water was beyond lukewarm...

    Baxi Barcelona Lockout

ChrisR: it does sound a bit like that but maybe not erratic enough, I think I'm going to have to do a clean by the sounds of it and then if it's still doing it replace the pump. Can I test it in a basin? DP: Boiler output is 75000Btu/hr with the jumpers on, 100000 with them off. I'd been...

    Baxi Barcelona Lockout

DP: hiya, the jumpers I removed are purely to "up the output" on this boiler. It did seem to do this (the fan ran faster) but when it didn't solve my problems I just put them back on. I didn't try this until I'd had about 10 days of infuriating lockouts so I don't think this caused anything. To...

    Baxi Barcelona Lockout

The plot thickens .... Yesterday the boiler did the safety loclout, flashing red light once a second, for the first time (normally it locks out with the red on constant). I followed the fault finder and the flow thermistor was open circuit. I got a new one this morning and sure enough it...
