    Your noise is almost certainly caused by either lime scale or sludge in the boiler the noise when switching from heating to water is the built in 3 way valve opening and closing water hammer behind valve seating very common on this model but noting to worry about

    Of The top of my head the Space Saver doesn’t have a capillary thermostat but a electrical spot thermostat High Low and pump overrun check the wiring diagram to confirm in installation instructions or sometime inside case

    I have seen plentey of boilers that require pump overun, but it has not been wired in sometimes 10 or more years old some one turns boiler stat up and hay presto faults I always find (and i have worked on a help line for a few years start at basics then move on from there don't asumme anythink

    Yes Oil Man is correct this boiler requires pump to be wired back to boiler and a permanant Live supply if this is correct check pump overun stat i think newer modles the pump overrun is provided by pcb timed delay

    I have had same problem on your model of boiler that you have several times a de scale will not always cure this and it often requires a new heatexchanger quite an old model now i would look at a new boiler we always recomend Worcester for combi and a scale reducer

    pcb or thermistor can not cause this problem you need to look at your 3 way valve if it is a Potterton or Myson with two little red neons than this is the likley cause

    Switchmaster is no longer made most of these were replaced a good few years ago best advice is drain system and change for Honeywell 3 way valve do note that the wiring is not the same as Switchmaster is a fully motorised valve and Honeywell is a spring return valve

    Having worked for Potterton for over15 years I can tell you that dripping taps cause all sorts of problems with Puma / combi range it will stop the boiler switching over to central Heating and also cause the Heat exchanger to scale UP :wink: :wink:
