i've connect it up and it works fine except the light is very dim, i'm using a 40w bulb, have tried a 60w bulb and still very dim when turned on full. is the dimmer switch underloaded, do i need to change to a 250w one?

thanks

I know! The wiring on our house is not what i would call standard even though it is only 10 years old. I have reconnected to the dimmer exactly as i have taken off from the original switch. this is also the case when i have changed other switches in the house to dimmers (which have worked fine for years!)

the terminal you call neutral - what exactly is its designation on the back of the switch???

Common designations are:

L1
L2
COM
C
~
~ with a / through it
L
A1
A2

None of these are neutral.

You dont have neutrals at a lightswitch in general.

OK thanks for your posts, but going back to the original post any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! :D :D :D

1) Are all the other lights OK?

2) How many lights does the switch control? Just wondering why there are 3 conductors there.

3) This light doesn't have 2-way switching, does it?

All other light are ok, the switch only control 1 light and it is 2 way switching 1 gang. Do you think the dimmer is underloaded?

thanks
