Hi,
We are currently planning an extension (rear 2 storey and side 2 storey) where we want to build across the drive, the narrowest point of the drive is 2500mm (where the neighbours chimney is) and widest is 2730mm.
The issue we have is that building the full width would block access to the garden, We are hoping to extend to around 1900mm which would leave a passageway of between 600mm-830mm, making the side extension narrow enough for garden access isn't an issue for the downstairs space but the upstairs space would become very tight, is their a way of building the upstairs with an overhang to increase the width?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Yes but it costs more and may well look pants out of context, assuming the design can be accommodated within the parameters. A brick pier or column in the corners and maybe midway along the edge can simplify things greatly but still can look pants. It’s all about the context. I suspect the planners will not like it.

Timber frame construction is well suited to jettying out and can look really good if there is architectural input.

It's been done on a couple of houses near me
How about a garage with extension above, but garage doors on each end?
