2.5mm or 4mm extended ring

You'd have to put the same size cable in, if you was adding just one socket-outlet and extending circuit!

No you wouldn't - the standard circuits now include a 2.5mm "Spur" off a 4.00mm Radial with a 32A MCB, with only a single accessory allowed - it's exactly the same as unfused spur off an RFC.

If you come off with 4.0mm it's classed as a Branch rather than a Spur and can have any number of accessories.

my intention was to make a ring circuit around the bedroom.
As i was coming off a ring, i was told all i would be doing was extending the ring.
but in this enquiry i was asking about using 4.. or 2.5mm coming off what i thought was 4mm, but was told it was an imperial cable as it had stranded earth.
