2 Gang Switch

I agree. Classic situation.
Older house
Refurb includes new consumer unit (dual RCD)
Up and down lighting on separate RCDs but borrowed neutral on the stair light.
RCD trips when light turned on.

Solution: remove the lamp so RCD doesnt trip, sell the house and leg it!

JBH Can we have a pic of your consumer unit please?
Its very handy if you can post photos like this.

There is no easy fix, the switching arrangement will need to be rewired for it to work.

Step 1 is to replace the single cable between the light and upstairs switch with twin and earth. This will get the upstairs switch working and is quite easy.

Step 2 is to replace the cable between the switches with 3 core and earth which I would imagine is more difficult!

Do we know for certain it is a single cable?

Could it be a twin and earth cable with one core cut off?

I imagine a picture of the upstairs switch would help.

Call Mr Suspicious, but I wonder why there's a blank between the sockets and the cooker MCB on the right hand RCD set…...
