Interesting that MK specify 3 x 2.5 mm², when there is room for 3 x 4 mm².
Yes, we've discussed that before. I suspect that they didn't think that anyone would want more than 3 conductors, so really meant "at least 3 x 2.5mm²". In my (limited) experience, there is no problem getting 4 x 2.5mm² conductors into MK ones (and many others).

Well, you say 'specify'.

If you just regard it as useful information, it is true.
However, if it takes 12mm² (3 x 4 or 2 x 6) without a struggle then it doesn't take much thought to realise it will take more than three 2.5s - possibly five (or even more).
 
So what I have said about BS1363 and manufacturers' instructions has been proven entirely correct.
