Seriously I'm no expert. Do check that the one you buy works OK with Fiat. I know OBDII is "standard" but. . .
I haven't used mine for a bit so I can't remember the exact instructions. They're in the manual though. Basically plug it in (with ignition off I think) , turn ignition on but don't start engine (again I think), read the faults, and press "erase" to get rid of them. You have to read the number off the screen and read the fault off the list in the manual. OK for occasional use.

My nephew got in his Punto last night and when he started the engine, the engine management light went out so the ECU must have sorted itself out over the few hours it was parked up.

Don't need to buy a fault code reader now - done and dusted hopefully.
