240v fluorescent downlights

hi all,id like to fit 8 9w fluroescent downlights in living room,ceiling void is 150mm,do i need fire hoods or heat flex at all?

CFL lamps run at much lower temps than regular downlights etc...
Heat flex? You mean cable that is resistant to higher temperatures? No you do not need to use that.

Fire hoods are not necessary unless the ceiling is a fire check ceiling or if you are in a multiple occupancy building.
 
ninja6, bear in mind MOST CFL downlights are not dimmable. They also have a long warm up duration, about 4-5 minutes.

You do not need fire hoods unless theres another dwelling above yours living room.

You do not need heat resistant flex or cable.

Don't forget however, that traditional Halogen lamps could be retrofitted at a later date, and so if they are new downlighters, making the same preparations such as removing insulation from around the fittings would be advisable as Halogen Lamps create far more heat. :D
 
I have plastic fittings that only accept CFLs. The CFL lamps have notches around their front, which correspond to lugs around the front of the fitting. These actually hold the lamp in - push it in and turn slightly.
