ABS VW polo

My car has an intermittent fault where the ABS light comes on with an alarm and simultaneousely the steering and braking system become very difficult. This has happened three times and I have had a garage look at it and the alternater replaced, which has not cured it. I dare not drive it in case it happens in traffic or on a roundabout etc. Any ideas anyone?

Many car systems rely on a perfect battery voltage and alternator output to make them perform correctly, Sara. I'd like to know what output in volts the alternator is actually producing.....it needs to be around 14.4V. Faults here would affect the power steering but shouldn't affect the brake performance. Can you clarify this for us please?
