A friend of mine's mother in law has dementia. She has a Yale night latch on her door but they had an incident the other night when the lady had fallen and hit her head and the family couldn't get in because she'd deadlocked the latch with the snib.

Is there a night latch that doesn't have a snib? Or can anyone think of a suitable lock that can't be deadlocked from the inside?

I did think about changing it to one of these combination door locks but the lady wouldn't remember the code - she goes out for her morning papers so she'd need a key to get back in.

It is an easy job to disable the snib. Can you post a photo ? We do it for communal entrance doors.
There are escape versions of the night latch known as egress locks but tend to be quite expensive.

I'll get her to take a pic or at least tell me exactly what lock is on the door.

Thank you :)
