I need a bit of advice.

The g/f and I moved into our first home a few months back, and I have been looking to put some TRVs on my rads, and while I have the system drained use the opportunity replace an old rad.

I went ahead and ordered the rad and 5 TRVs online, they've arrived today and I've realised my mistake...they, and the rad are all 15mm, and (although I'm at work now and am not 100% sure) I'm confident I have an 8mm Microbore setup back home.

Can I just get some 15-8mm compression reducers, or will I have to send all the stuff back and order 8mm ones?

I specifically say compression fittings as I'm not entirely sure about soldering copper. I've only ever done electronics soldering, and i'm not really sure that translates :)

Thanks in advance for any help.

The quick answer is yes you can use reducers as you mention...

or compression reducing sets might be an option. If you use solder ring reducing fittings you cant really go wrong (unless you are totally out of it!) you'll just need some flux and a flame.

I assume that you do not have a micro bore system with single entry rad valves?!

I'm not 100% sure on the terminology, but I assume you are asking if the pipes for flow and return are on the same side of the rads, or on separate ends?

The flow and return pipes are on separate ends of the rads.

The reducing olives will look like those pictured at the bottom of this picture : www.godfreys-online.co.uk/imageview.php?image=mistral_twin.jpg

My '10mm Drayton TRV4s' were simply 15mm TRVs with a 15-10mm reducing olive in the pack - they also did 8mm versions IIRC.

Your local plumbers merchant will be the best place to try to get them separately - I doubt the DIY superstores will stock them.

Theres a PTS just round the corner from where I work, so that should do the trick, I'd imagine.
