Hi all!

I'm replacing the carpet on our stairs & landing.

Had a quick look in Carpet Right and they have about 5-6 different underlays.

What should I be looking for? Are they all the same?

Cheers!

EDIT: While taking up the old carpet and underlay I've had to scrape a lot of the old underlay off the floor. In places it appears to have just disintegrated into dust.

Is this normal?

........your old underlay was "rubber" and yes with time this happens - definately had your life out of that!

....stick to PU as advised in your other thread - it has a better memory and wont degrade over time.

last time I checked carpetshite were still pushing out rubber at inflated prices, make sure you visit a good independant - you will get a much better deal

PuFoam will give a deeper softer feel, if wear and appearance is a higher priority then consider a Crumb Rubber such as Duralay Treadmore or it's hard to bean a natural felt or felt combo such as Axminster Axfelt65. Either way, visit an independant retailer and prepare for the suprise of being able to buy a better underlay for less money than CarpetRight are offering :D
