Hi,

We recently moved in to a 1930's house and have started to decorate one of the bedrooms.

There is a vent in the chimney breast as no fire is present (the room below there is a working gas fire). On the external wall is a plastic vent. When we have removed it in preparation to decorate, we have discovered an old towel stuffed in there and the back of the vent in to the room is sealed with tape.

The question is do keep it block up or not or do we still need this for ventilation?

The house is double glazed but there is not any vents in the units and the house has gas central heating.

Any ideas?

If there is no mould in the room then you can leave it blocked up.

If you get mould after a wile you can unblock it
