Citroen Berlingo van, 2008, 1.6 hdi.
The air bag light won't go out - but the system won't communicate with any scanner either.
Is this likely to be the airbag module, do you think? I've gone over all the connections I can find, for pre tensioners and the like - but if I don't know where to look, I have a problem!

Those under seat connectors are usually the cause of 90% of problems.
i usually pull them apart and spray with wd40, plug them in and out a few times to make sure the terminals are clean.
Ive cut the connectors off and soldered/heatshrinked them in the past just to be 100% sure.
Not done a berlingo but very unusual to see a module fail but it is a citroen after all!
Im not sure why the code reader wont work, is it a decent one with extended manufacturer coverage for airbag systems?

If you can try a different scan tool, some wont go into the safety restraint system for some reason. Yes, you cant do much without it making a connection.
Will the scan tool recognize if you disconnect a seat plug, might jerk it into action?
We had an Italian with the same problem and it was a blown fuse?

I appreciate the replies chaps, and am trying to think through this logically....I've been to two garages who plugged various diagnostic machines into the port, but both said that they were unable to communicate with the vehicle - they were using top gear too.
So - its a single air bag, and two pre tensioners. I've carefully checked under the drivers seat and the connections appear to be sound - they are clean and tight (Although I was very suspicious because of some tools stuffed in there).
The connections to the module are fool proof and well shielded, likewise the connection to the steering column 'squib' (which I haven't investigated).
So it seems like the diagnostic socket isn't powering up for some reason, but I'm at a loss to understand why!
Apart from swapping bits over, I don't know what to do!

you can test at the obd connector for power too, pin 16 should have 12 v battery on it and pins 4 and 5 are negative.
May be a fuse gone.

Well thanks to all of you for your replies
I'm still getting nowhere, and considering how long I've spent on the thing already, its back to the owner now with a recommendation to book it in at a specialist near me.
I'm not prepared to gamble on replacing parts just to see what happens so I think I'll unhappily admit defeat!

I had a Vauxhall Vectra that I was trading in at a Vauxhall franchise
garage, the airbag light had been on for some after having had to
break hard, a technician sorted it using a diagnostic tool so there must be a code they can use to sort it
