Any advice please on fitting new wired magnetic contacts, such as should the power be off to the panel and how can I avoid the alarm going off etc. Thanks.

You quite often need to enter the engineers code into the panel whilst it is unset to gain access without it tampering.
Apart from that we don't have a lot to go on - make and model of panel?
Do you know how to program the new contacts?
It may be a good idea to have the mains switched off whilst you are tinkering around in there however if you power it down fully the bell box might go into alarm.

what kind of alarm system do you have/ your door contact is normaly a 2 wire connection you should put it in zone 1 in the panel. be sure to entry the engineers mode which is normally 9999 before you take the cover off?
really you should power the system down to avoid electric shock, good luck

Can you please tell us where this piece of information comes from, do you know something alarm engineers don't?
