Okay so I ask this here as Richard C kindly pointed out this forum on a comment I made on the flooring forum.
Situation is, the recently-laid concrete slab in my kitchen and bathroom is 25mm below the level of the top of the floorboards in the dining room (which adjoins the kitchen, which itself adjoins the bathroom).
The floor tiles will probably be 10mm, the tiling adhesive 3-4mm, leaving about 11-12mm, which I believe is too thin for a screed.
Self-levelling compound for my purposes is too expensive so I was going to lay cement board which is 6mm; 6mm plus 5mm of mortar (to bond to the concrete slab) makes 11mm.

Does this make sense? Would anybody do it differently?
Thanks.
